      Re: Ptl

Moran didn't play due to spraining his ankle on Sunday. Lucas won't be in the PTL this year to play it safe on his knee.

          My thoughts:

Travis Brown: Wow, he looks good. He was very aggressive taking it to the hoop. He and Benny J were on the same team and were obviously the team's go two guys.

Ali F: Great ball handler and a solid shooter. He will definitely be able to contribute right away next year. Too bad he isn't a few inches taller.

Anthony James: He is incredibly small, both height and weight. He was smaller than a lot of the high schoolers. He did show flashes of nice athletic ability and had two nice dunks, but they were both break aways with no defenders near him. I expect him to red-shirt next year.

Malcolm Moore – I.C. City High: We need to be recruiting this kid if we aren't already. He was very physical. He has a nice frame. Guarded Cyrus Tate almost all game long well and even blocked his shot a couple times.

Unfortunately, Kwadzo hurt his shoulder, however, this time he hurt his left shoulder and it sounds like he will have to have another surgery. He will be out 4 months.

You may get to see Malcolm in Cedar Falls a lot this coming season. CF is one of the few schools he hasn't played for in our conference. So far he has played for three different schools in three years! Tell Cedar Falls to call his parents and mention you may have a shot at a state championship and his parents will "buy a house/move" to CF.

All it takes is a phone call.

Are his knees, ankles, and shoulders in good shape? Perhaps we could get him early.

                        Definitely on my "All-Name" team.

For some reason, I can't get ABBA's "Take A Chance on Me" song out of my head.

Adam Koch - He played pretty well. He was aggresive and looked like he's even put on some more muscle. Still didn't shoot the outside shot too great (although the actually shot didn't look too bad). We are going to need a lot out of him this year and I think he'll be able to provide that.

Brian Haak - He put on some more muscle and looked pretty solid, still not a starter in the Valley, but a capable back up. As always made some good decisions with the ball.

Kwazdo Ahelegbe - He wasn't there (even though originally I said he was).

Travis Brown - Travis played pretty good. He was really aggresive taking it to the hoop and was knocking down his 3's. If he can carry this over to the regular season he'll be a huge weapon for us.

Carlton Reed - Was aggresive to the basket for most of the game but I didn't think he finished too well. He a couple open shots which was nice to see. At times he did look a little lost, but overall had a pretty decent showing.

Ali F (not even going to try and spell it) - I actually only got to see a little bit of this game. But from what I heard (and the little I saw) he had a decent game. Nothing too flashy, just a solid PG.

Austin Phel - He has a good body, but he looked pretty raw. Hopefully we can afford him to redshirt because that would be really nice for him. Give him a few years of practice and developing and I think he can be a pretty special player.

Jake Koch - He seems to be a little bit better shooter than Adam, but he lack the explosiveness that Adam has. He has a decent body, but a year of lifting and conditioning will help him out a lot. I don't think he'll be quite as solid as Adam right away, but he should develop into a good player.

Adam Rodenberg - He is a pretty thick guy. He can bang a little with the big guys and maybe give us a few minutes here and there, but he's not going to be playing any significant minutes in my opinion. He does have a little talent, but I think his biggest asset will be another big body in practice.

Anthony James - He's not very big at all. I'm not sure what he's listed at but if he's 5'10" I'd be shocked. He had a monster one handed dunk on a break away though, so he's definetly an athlete. His body isn't ready yet for the Valley, but if he puts on some weight he could be a nice PG for us down the road becaue he does have some talent. His shot didn't look too great either last night, but that should come around with some time in the gym.

Kerwin Dunham - He has definitley added some much needed muscle which was nice to see. He was a lot more aggresive and stronger going to the hoop than I've ever seen out of him. I think he's going to really impress people this year and the next few. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he can do next year.

Jon Montgomery - He played a pretyy good all around game. Played as hard of D as anyone last night. Also hit a nice 3 and played a good floor game. Was a little reluctant to handle the ball at the top of the key, but other than that IO thought he had a nice game.

                            Other noteables

Benny J - Back to his old self. Took over the game down the stretch.

Jordan Egelseder - Didn't play due to knee surgery. Hopefully he gets some games in by the end of the summer.

Marcus Paige - Going to be a freshman in HS at Linn-Mar. The kid is so weak compared to these guys with D-1 bodies, but you can tell he has some talent. It was way too hard to judge him though because he was getting handled by some physical guys.

I'm sure I'm missing some other guys so if I remember I'll post some more comments. This is just my thoughts on the night.
I'm 5'11 and James is taller than me. Also he was the 2nd leading scorer in that contest with 17 points. He'll get the job done, dont worry about him physically. Opposing team always tried to bully him in high school and go after him and he fought off defender after defender to get to this point.

                              Re: Ptl

Another good showing from the UNI guys tonight. Saw half of each game. I am very excited to see all our new recruits on the court in a few months. Ali F is truly a gifted ball handler and distributer. I think we got a steal with this kid. Were there any other schools who offered him? It's been my impression he kind of flew under the radar. He's going to be a big add to our guard line-up.

I was also impressed with Anthony James. He had a better showing than the last game I watched him in. He is definitely a good shooter. He's capable of putting up a lot of points in a short time period. I still think he will red shirt, but only because we have a plethora of guards to choose from right now. If he doesn't RS, I can see him being used like Viet was during his first couple years (put him in for 5-6 minutes and run some set 3 pt plays for him).

Kerwin looks much bigger than last year. He's definitely been hitting the weights. Other than his size, nothing surprised me. Had some nice 15 foot jump shots. He seemed a little slow when compared to T. Brown, J Montgomery, Ali F, and A James.

T Brown and J Montgomery played a great game again. They seem to play really well with each other. JM played great defense. TB seemed like he could drive on anybody. He looked fast and athletic. He and Matt Gatens guarded each other all game.

The Koch brothers played each other tonight and for the majority of the game they guarded each other too. They are pretty comparable. J Koch is thicker than Adam and doesn't seem to have the range Adam has (or at least didn't display it in either game I've seen him in).

Also, on a side note, Jared Josten was playing tonight. I didn't see him on the roster. Anyone know what's going on?
