Re: Number of Conference Wins
So much to respond to (sorry this is long, but I just have to) . . .
I don't need to reread any of Khan's posts. They say the same thing over and over and over . . . Why exactly is it unrealistic for someone to assume (or expect) that a team coached by McDermott, with some of the same key players as his last 3 tournament teams, would've reached the NCAA tournament for a 4th season? You're right, there's a very good chance they may not have, but why am I suddenly unrealistic for expecting them to?Originally posted by FerociousCat View PostNow you are back to the "games Mac would have won" theory...I'll let you go back & re-read some of Khans posts...
Not following you here . . . It is quite possible that some great players are stuck on some really crappy teams and it's just as possible that being on a great team can bring the best out of even an average player. I don't really understand your question or why this was brought up at all . . .Originally posted by FerociousCat View PostBeing part of a successful team makes one a better player?
Again, I'm not really following you here. Are you trying to say that Josten did NOT do a good job running the point, or are you trying to accuse me of taking part in the "if we only had a pg" theme? I don't understand this question or why it was even directed at me.Originally posted by FerociousCat View PostJosten did fine running the point?? Huh? I seem to remember the "if we only had a pg" theme.
One, I do think Josten did a fine job running the point. Sure, he didn't have natural PG instincts and that hurt from time to time, and sure, him playing the point took him out of a "score first" role that could've benefited this team, but the fact remains, that Josten played the point well last season under the circumstances.
Two, you NEVER heard me using that excuse last season. I don't know why you brought that up at all.
I think Jacobson's "experiment" with Coleman off the bench last year was stupid and unnecessary. I don't think it was brought on because of any sort of "lack of effort" out of Coleman. If that was the case, Jacobson didn't hold his ground very well later in the season when he realized his own stupidity and tossed EC right back into the starting lineup . . .Originally posted by FerociousCat View PostDid Jake experiment with Coleman's effort or desire? Coleman "made us better" when he wanted to. Maybe EC should have acted more like a SENIOR LEADER & the experiment wouldn't have been necessary...& I think EC not starting was the most ridiculous thing ever...
Imagine starting as a freshman, being successful, then starting your sophomore and junior seasons as a "star". Suddenly in your fourth and final senior season, your new coach decides to try bringing you in off the bench to provide a spark. How exactly would you feel after being hailed by many as one of the biggest stars of the conference? I'd love to see how all you noble, "I'd do what's best for the team", people would act given a similar situation.
I think Eric was wronged and I think it greatly impacted last year's season and team chemistry and I think it's solely on Jacobson's shoulders.
No, I blame my wife.Originally posted by FerociousCat View PostDo you blame Jake when there is no toilet paper left on the roll?
What does this have to do with anything? I realize you're taking a sarcastic jab at my anger over this topic but still, it kills me that people want to question things like my anger over the disappearance of the "Under 30" discount. Have you been to a UNI basketball game lately? If you have, why on earth would the athletic department, or the ticket office, or whoever makes the call, choose this season to mess with things such as taking away an "Under 30" discount or raising ISU tickets to $40 a pop? Come on . . . we're struggling to HALF-fill a place that only seats 8,000 to begin with. And you want to call me crazy for complaining about the lack of an "Under 30" discount and the manner in which it was taken away?Originally posted by FerociousCat View PostDid Jake take away the PSC under 30 discount?

Do you know Eric personally? Did he tell you that?Originally posted by Khan4Cats View PostColeman. Leader. Nope, don't belong together. Coleman did what he did when HE felt like doing it.
I find it funny that when Eric got beat on defense or when Eric missed a rebound or when Eric looked tired getting up the floor, it was immediately credited to his "lack of effort" and "poor leadership skills".
However when Big Jordan does it, it's attributed to his size and limitations of his talent.
Eric worked his butt off for this University for 4 seasons and you are in no place to question his effort.

Re: Number of Conference Wins
Again, try actually READING those threads and point out where I said I expected anything. Both of them were speculative (one was also obviously sarcastic) about what would need to happen.Originally posted by Panther789 View Post
Here let me try it maybe simpler terms for you:
If we can win the MVC tournament we will be in the NCAA tournament.
Did I say I "expected" anything? No. Did I guarantee anything? Only what is already a known fact-that the MVC tourney winner gets an auto-bid into the NCAA tournament.
You see, IF (only two letters) is a really big word when you don't actually read it.

Are you saying there were not games where it certainly looked like he had "checked out?" That goes back to his freshman year. Eric did do great things for this university-when he was in a supporting role. When he had the chance to take a leadership role, he didn't.
You're in no more position than anyone else is to question anything, but that doesn't stop you from questioning the coaches, players, administration, fans, students, etc. either. It's what a message board is for.
I understand your expectations are for perfection and nothing less. I think you are wrong. Also what a message board is for.

Dude when you make asinine comments like this it makes me want to jump in here and strangle you.Originally posted by Khan4Cats View PostI understand your expectations are for perfection and nothing less.
If you seriously think that about me, FINE, but then you haven't listened to a DAMN thing I've been saying!

Re: Number of Conference Wins
There were plenty of games where Eric looked tired, or got beat out for rebounds, but to question his effort, the way most people on this board did on a regular basis, was not my place.Originally posted by Khan4Cats View PostAre you saying there were not games where it certainly looked like he had "checked out?" That's different than disagreeing with a coaching strategy or game plan or substitution patterns or time-out usage.

Ten charactersIf computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

6. What does this have to do with anything?
1. I agree with you on two years ago but we still didn't have Benny or Crawford...our two biggest shot makers from the "Golden Era"(as Khan has pointed out to you NUMEROUS TIMES)...last year the only real key player from before was EC.
2. You said losing Reed & KA didn't matter last year because they weren't part of the "golden era"...
3. If you think we didn't need PG help last year...you never saw UNI play.
4. I agree to an extent...but EC was also at fault.
5. Ditto
6. Had to do it
