We have two, count them, TWO different pep bands, and the only games they have played so far are the two Iowa State games. As a band guy myself, I cannot stress how incredibly Z-Grade this makes us look. If you aren't going to have a band until the men and women are playing their 17th games (more than halfway through the season) why have a band? Spend that money on something more useful. That's ridiculous. I will go to the proper authorities on this, but does anyone else agree?

Re: Just A Quick Vent
UNI has a hard enough time getting enough members to field the PMB...no way they'd have enough kids to have a separate pep band. I can understand not playing during the break, but I don't know why they didn't start up right away at the beginning of the season. Had they already had the auditions?EVER LOYAL.

I'm not sure that's entirely true...they did build the GBPAC and they renovated Russell Hall.Originally posted by Purrrrrfect View Postcuz in reality, UNI doesn't really give a poop about Fine Arts. We are on our own top to support the more artistic parts of life.EVER LOYAL.

Re: Just A Quick Vent
Completely agree. It was ridiculous there was no pep band at the Missouri State game Saturday. The final weekend of Christmas break, I'm assuming most band members were already back in town. And for the ones that weren't, they would have only had to come back one day before they had to be back anyway for school (assuming most kids come back on Sunday, and not the Monday morning school is starting).

Re: Just A Quick Vent
YES! I think the McLeod looks a hell of a lot more full when the band is in the student section, loud as can be. I'm NOT really a "band" guy (sorry Marc) and I like some of the music they play in the McLeod, but it sure does seem lonely in there without a band.Originally posted by Marc Wigim View PostWe have two, count them, TWO different pep bands, and the only games they have played so far are the two Iowa State games. Re: Just A Quick Vent
I agree. Its rediculous that they are not there. Its almost like it has to be some kind of a perfect storm for the band to play at the games.
As was stated before, EVERY other school in the country has a band every game.UNI FIGHT

Re: Just A Quick Vent
Regardless of the academic calendar other UNI students with a role in the basketball production show up. The "spirit squads" all show up; the west Dome parking lot attendants show up; the bench support groupies show up; the lazy towel boys under the baskets show up (okay, they're not UNI students; I just wanted to deride them); TC shows up; the clean up crews show up; but the pep band, not so much.
The game atmosphere is much better with them than without them.

Re: Just A Quick Vent
The pep band is part of the atmosphere at any major college basketball game. I'm disappointed to read the above. Someone mentioned the music played in the McCleod, but it's not the same thing. Playing Metallica or Bon Jovi during a break doesn't add anything to the atmosphere, and many would consider it cheesy.
To any university administration types reading this...go old school (aways better) and include the band as much as feasibly possible.
