    Really?

The chances of UNI waltzing into Albany with a 115 RPI are looking pretty good.

A close loss to Creighton looks a helluva lot better than a close loss to Rider . . .

Watching some of the Siena-Loyola (MD) game on MASN. (Dish sports package is nice).

Halftime score is Siena 35, Loyola 28.

What I can tell right now is that this will definitely be a game of contrasting styles. Siena wants to run any chance they get. They are not real big, even their posts are more of the long and lean type (think Theron Wilson/Shy Ely size). They like to drive and dish or try and draw contact. Decent strategy for disrupting an opponents rotation, but they don't shoot free throws well enough to capitalize too much. On defense, they overplay a lot and are looking to reach and swipe any body that drives. If we can get the ball inside to our posts, our strength and size should be a big disparity in our favor.

The other thing I should note is that Loyola has almost no post presence of note and is at best a marginal team that wants to run and has very little offensive or defensive discipline.

End of the Loyola-Siena game was bizarre.

Siena had a 15 point lead and rebounded a Loyola miss with 16 seconds left. They brought it across half-court and were dribbling out the clock, players started shaking hands, coaches went to meet half-way: and then a Loyola player came up from behind the Siena guard, picked his pocket and took off down court for a dunk with 2 seconds left. Unreal.

Side-notes: the two points scored gave the player 19 for the game (he was averaging 18.8 coming in) and the line for the game was Siena by 14.5.

Nice synopsis of last nights game.

Siena did not play very well and had some really bad turnovers. There defense was pretty good, but it certainly helped that Loyola has no one on the interior to fear, so the perimeter players could stay at home.

The key for Siena to win versus UNI is to pressure the ball and not let UNI's big men get the ball where they want it. If Siena's perimeter defense is good, then Siena should do okay. Conversely, if Siena's pressure is ineffective, then UNI should win. I will say that Siena can struggle going up teams that are very physical and athletic on the perimeter/wings. (I don't know if UNI falls within that category.)

Siena will push the ball both on misses and makes and, when playing well, get a lot of good scoring opportunities early in the shot clock.

I'm really looking forward to this game on the Deuce.

As for the end of last night's game, pretty weird. Hope there were no financial concerns and it was just a kid for Loyola frustrated by losing a game where they played well enough defensively to be in the game but could not execute consistently on the offensive end of the court.

Sorry, but you can't lose that game at home.

I didn't really know where else to put this (I can't post threads), but I wrote an article about Northern Iowa. And seeing how my site focuses on bracket busters, I felt it was appropriate to post it here.

Good article, and I like the sounds of a potential Sweet 16, but I think you would be surprised just how much our defensive intensity has accounted for our success this year. Our guys have shot well, yes, but they have also shut down other teams' top scorers almost 100% since Brackins abused us.

                        Siena 94, Manhattan 69

Siena put together a complete game tonight. Starters pulled with 8 minutes to go. 17 game home winning streak which will be intact for next weekend for you guys to make a run at.

Siena plays at Iona on Monday - a team they beat by a point a couple of weeks ago in Albany. Iona has sort of hit the skids since that game and have been struggling - so Siena will be expected to hold serve in that one setting up the BB game.

Siena's RPI holding at 28, and if they win on the road on Monday, should get a bump of a spot or two.

Hi...Just another Siena fan. In response to UNI Fight post # 268 and apparently some Siena fans. The question of the Saint Bernard "Logo". The original name of Siena is "Saint Bernadine of Siena". The Male counterpart of St. Bernadine would be, of course, St. Bernard. In the '60's we would have a live St. Bernard at the "Club" Football Games with a coat of the school colors and a big S. The early student body just refered to the college as Siena and as previously stated we were called the Indians. As the transformation from the "Indians" to the "Saints" was taking place the Saint Bernadine portion of the schools name was being eliminated but the St. Bernard stayed.
I think you guys have a great board and I have enjoyed it.
If any of you are coming to the game and would like some info on the area I would be pleased to help and hopefully next year you could rcipicate

After the b1tch slapping WSU gave you tonight, and with your RPI heading for triple digits, have any of you guys figured out why us Siena fans were upset we drew you in the Bracketbuster yet? Just asking.

                              What a douche.

First off, Siena has already lost to WSU, and that was when WSU was bad earlier in the year.

Second, UNI is the best team Siena could have played. They should be happy they get to play the Valley's first place team and not more crappy teams from the maaaaaaac, or whatever irrelevant conference you are in.

Imagine how much Siena's rpi is going to fall when they lose at home to a team with an rpi "in the triple digits". See you next saturday.

If UNI plays next weekend like they played tonight (no shooting ability), then there won't be a "game", unfortunately. With that said, Siena would be the Valley's b1tch if they played in it (by that I mean they would be a top half team...with a shot at a title about like UNI...every once in awhile). Because they play in the MAAAAC and some computer nerd came up with a bogus BCS-like way of ranking basketball teams, it doesn't make them any better or any more relevant than UNI in the national scope. I hope UNI wins for many reasons, not the least of which is to show how stupid the RPI really is.
