If we're having 2000+ empty seats right now, this seems like the prime time to either drop the price on certain seats, or start giving tickets away via radio (and even TV) promotions like crazy. Get people in there - you aren't selling those tickets as it is, and at least when you give them away you make some extra concession money.
Part, if not most of the problem is season ticket holders and corporations not using their tickets.

Take that back. Over 75% of the empty seats are unused but bought/claimed seats

People are looking to much into these "down" games for individual players.

We have a very balanced squad, and different guys are going to step up on different nights.

I don't know that I'd put blame on "season ticket holders". Corporations not using their seats, maybe/probably. But most season ticket holders (people who purchase the tickets with their own money) are probably people who bought tickets ready to support UNI through thick and through thin. I would be willing to bet that they are at the games.

Up until the last few games our student section has been weak and even in the last few games, while it looks MUCH better, that student section is not FULL by any means.

Anyone know how many actual season ticket holders we have? Because when the McLeod is only 1500 to 2000 seats away from being a sellout, I just have a hard time thinking it's not because of season ticket holders. Maybe I'm way off though . . .

The guy behind me last night kept saying to his wife "We need Johnny on the floor!" "What's Jake thinking? We need Moran out there! NOW!"

I almost turned around and asked if he had actually been watching the game. Because Travis earned his minutes last night. Why take Travis out?

Moran wasn't necessarily down, like you (789) said. It's just that Travis stepped up and deserved the PT. It's going to happen.

It also means UNI gets national exposure, which makes getting on the bandwagon that much easier.

I'm at a loss myself...I don't understand why the Cedar Valley doesn't support this team given the lack of competition for their attention, and/or lack of other things to do in the area. I also vaguely understand that Wednesday is a "church night", but really, how common is that for the majority of church-going people?

I think you're right, Stein. We've gone round and round about this during football season. We had 7 regular season home games and I don't think we sold out any of them. Everybody had their pet reasons why but the bottom line was that they didn't draw as well as they should have.

Now it seems that people are saying that people won't come out for mid-week games. Sounds like another excuse to me. Let me see if I have this straight. We shouldn't schedule games on Wednesday nights because of church. Tuesday and Fridays are out because of high school basketball. Plus Friday night is a popular night to go out. Thursdays isn't a good night because that's Hill night - or it was when I went there. So that leaves Mondays but that's a quick turnaround for a Saturday game and there's Monday Night Football through the end of December.

We seem to believe we are a unique situation - that no other school has the same challenges that we do. I don't think that's true. We don't need to look any farther than in the Valley to see that teams have drawn well on weeknights. Look at Creighton who has the advantage of being in a larger metropolitan area but has the disadvantage of being a private school. Up until this year they have drawn well no matter what night they played. They have bars and churches and high school basketball in Nebraska too but people would rather go to see the Blue Jays play than do those other things.

There's always an excuse for people not to go if they really don't want to. Even scheduling games on Saturdays becomes tricky. You can't schedule it too early because the students who haven't gone home for the weekend are still nursing their hangovers. You can't do it at night because you may come into conflict with the Iowa game and the bars. Schedule it any other time and you might run into ISU or other games on TV. Sundays can be problematic because of the church/hangover factor. There's also competition with the NFL through January. After that there are NBA and college games and before you know it the season's over.

The point is that there is a lot of competition for the entertainment dollar out there. You can't just throw up your hands and say, "Well, we're not drawing because of church or high school sports or the bars or whatever." They are in competition with you too. People have to believe it is a special event to go to a UNI game if you are looking for a good crowd. You have to get 6-7,000 people to believe that there is no other place they would rather be than at a UNI game. How you get there is another story.
"And immediately, (P'Allen Stinnett's) Facebook status was spouting vulgarities towards the university."

I'll ditto what 789 said (so Johnny rumors don't start flying). Johnny was alright last night. It just wasn't worth putting him back in the game to sit Travis. Travis played well.

Exactly. Johnny played 22 minutes, 4 points, 3 boards, 3 assists, 1 steal, only 1 TO. Good line.

It's just that Travis' play on Eldridge allowed Kwadzo to lock on Holloway, and Ali had Phillips (and was in the groove on offense).

It's great to have balance. Teams can't just concentrate on one person to beat us. We have the ability, the confidence, and the unselfishness to share to beat teams in other ways. All five starters have hit 20 and our top 3 off the bench have all had double digit games this year.

I never said to NOT schedule games on Wednesdays. But you can't deny that it is an "excuse", even if that's all it is.

There aren't 1500 to 2000 tickets left to be sold, with the exception of students, for games. There should be about 1500 left with the bowl completely full with no students or gen. admin. I would say 80% of the seats are claimed/bought but now used, take that as you will
