  • Arch Madness no more?

I am biased but I really hope this gets moved to KC.

    And Vegas? what??

I understand wanting to keep things fresh but what becomes of the branding of "Arch Madness? "

No way Vegas is being seriously considered. That has to be a "keep 'em honest" RFP for the others bidding. I'm not real sure KC or Chicago are even really considered, but are more just to get St. Louise to step up their game.

I would love it. My feelings aside, it would definitely be well received by Shocker fans. You might actually end up selling more tickets by moving it to KC.

Kansas City would be fun but it couldn't be Arch Madness anymore. From what I've read the Scottrade needs to fix some things. I haven't been since 2010 though so not sure.

Kansas City does a great job with hosting events, but I love St. Louis Arch Madness makes our tournament relevant and I just can't see it anywhere else. Chicago is not a good host city for these types of events, which is the main reason it hasn't been hosting the B1G tourney at all lately, and Vegas makes no sense, and there are already 3 conference tourneys in Vegas.

I would love it in KC, but with Creighton's recent exit, the geometric center of all schools moved even farther away from KC.

                Re: Arch Madness no more?

Please no...I'll be moving to STL in the fall and have never been to Arch Madness. That is one of the many things that has me very excited to live in the area. It would be just my luck that this happens though.

                  Re: Arch Madness no more?

Kansas City is a great college basketball town and the conference might look to try to capitalize on Wichita's success my moving it closer to them.

Vegas has to be a joke and I think Chicago would be an awful decision.

They do this every few years and it never gets moved.

They go thru this every 5 years, seems more frequent, and always stay in STL. Chicago and LV aren't making competitive bids, and KC is probably tired of doing so and getting rejected. As long as the people that run the conference call STL home they aren't going to change.

Isn't one of the higher ups at the MVC head office married into the St. Louis/Scottrade agreement? I vaguely remember someone on here or the valley site mentioning this information.

Yes. Patty (MVC) and Frank (STL Sports Commission) Viverito. As stated before, this happens every few years, although I think the request for bids has become more public in recent years. I love Arch Madness, but in all honesty I wouldn't mind seeing KC get it every couple years..given that Wichita stays in the Valley.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

It's a tough decision with two schools of thought IMO.

The first being don't fix something that isn't broken. Arch Madness is one of the most successful conference tournaments in the nation.

The second being a rotation between KC and St. Louis will keep things fresh and provide a spark to an ailing conference. Attendance is down and moving closer to Wichita will boost the numbers while keeping WSU happy.

Is it? Financially speaking I mean. I know everyone has a great time, and that counts for something. But, does it make enough comparative money for the conference to be among the best in class? The CBS contract counts for something more than cash, so I don't ask this sarcastically.
