  • Stay till the end

Anyone else notice the growing trend of more and more people getting up and leaving the McLeod (and Dome) before the end of the games? And I'm not just talking about a couple people leaving with 30 seconds left in a 15 point game, but loads of people leaving a 4, 6 or 8 point game with about 3 minutes left. That's crunch time where the team has to buckle down and pull it out. I can't imagine seeing a bunch of people streaming out and leaving empty seats while you are trying to dig deep on the court / field. It is embarrassing enough to see fans turn their backs on their team when the team is losing. But our fans do it when they are winning! Nice reward..."We pour it out on the court for 35 minutes, have a lead at crunch time and our fans bolt on us."

Do these people leave a movie with 5 minutes left? Or do they stop reading a book with 10 pages left? I have a message for all of these people: Old Yeller dies at the end of the book and Rocky doesn't win the fight in Rocky I, because I'm sure you missed those, too.

Stay and cheer on your team till the final horn. This is so often the best, most exciting part of the game. I assume you went to the game to actually see the game and not just to prove to yourself that you can beat traffic out of a parking lot.

Well you know...those extra 15 minutes it may take to get out of the parking lots is pretty crucial

    I agree 100%!

It does have something to do with getting out of the parking lot, with the stupid set up that the University has in place if you don't want to sit in the parking lot for 45-60 minutes you have to leave a little early.

LOL, has anyone ever had to wait 45 mins to leave a UNI game? Maybe 20.
"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

Yes, more than once I have sat for 45 minutes, luckily I usually get there early enough to get the spot right next to the exit.

                    Re: Stay till the end

I would also say that it has a lot to do with the parking lot situation. It is ridiculous to get out of there. I was there for the South Dakota St. game and parked in the C lot South of the McLeod. I don't know what the deal was but it took about at least a half hour for us to get out of there. There are only 7000 people in the McLeod. It's not like it's over 20000 people trying to get out of that area. They must have realized something was screwed up because then they opened up the gate coming out of the North end of lot C and let us go towards Hudson Rd. I've never seen them do that or I've never been stuck there long enough for them to do that.

It was at least entertaining to see the crazy people that can't wait to get out of the lot and start going back and forth between the exits because one line started moving quicker than the other. My car just sat there and watched this crazy lady go back and forth at least 3 times between exits. Then she got out at the same time as we did.

You know it's a great season when there are threads about parking lot issues and not about the team losing. Go Panthers!

Yes, at the Loyola game it took us over 30 min to get out of our parking spot because nobody was moving, then about 15 more to get out of the lot. I wonder if there was a fender bender or something that day - that is the only time I've had issues, I usually only get to 2-3 games a year.

                        Re: Stay till the end

What they need to do is send the west lots to the north past the dome, then send the SW lots to the south and come out past the gas station, and the south C lot back on to 27th street, this trying to send 2 lots on to that little road by the gas station doesn't work. Also this would make it safer because if everyone going onto 27th had to turn east (which most do anyway) then the cross walk would not interfere with any traffic.

When there is a big enough lead I like to leave my seat and watch the rest of the game close to the exit so I can get a jump on the traffic. I've probably left a football game or two over the years when we were up buy a ton.... like 28+ points.

But a close game.. never. It's interesting to see small numbers of Cubs fans leave games in the 7th and 8th even if they are just up by a run or two... Crazy.

Nobody in the history of UNI sports has waited 45-60 to get out of a parking lot.

Cubs fans just want to get on the "L" sooner so they don't have to stand and hold onto the grab bar.
