  • List teams that are a bad matchup for UNI in NCAA tournament

Anybody that presses full court all the time scares me. Wisconsin and Virginia also would worry me because they play the same game with bigger guys.

    What say you?

Duke, Virginia, Wisconsin, Gonzaga, Butler, Harvard.

I thought we handled the press OK early in the season on the road at VCU. n

I'm mostly worried about teams that play good team basketball.

VCU, West Virginia & the Razorbacks are three good teams that have pressed full court regularly with some success. I think we would beat all three of these teams (all ranked). Since Anton Beard was incorporated into the starting line up with Ky Madden Arkansas has taken their season to another level. This isn't 40 mins of hell though from the past.

I will think about the question though...

I agree on the press. I think having Deon and Wes will help against those. Most worried about the solid, fundamental teams (Virginia, Butler, Wisconsin, Michigan State) that can match us in that aspect.

A team with a lot of long arms could cause us fits if they go zone on us. Or someone with a couple of dominant inside players to wear Tuttle down and prove too tall for Marv.

But if we're clicking from outside with Bo, Paul, JMo, Buss, I'll take my chances with just about anyone.

And I'll give props to run&blade, this is actually a decent topic for discussion that doesn't carry the same ominous 'if we only win x tourney games we really aren't that good' tone.

I forgot about the Spartans, it's been a rough season for them, but I don't want any piece of Izzo in March.

Izzo has a way of getting to play multiple weekends.

Im not worried about a press whatsoever. In fact, Id prefer to play a running/pressing team. Once you slow them down with defense, those teams become very average, and we have often excelled against these types of teams.

I want no part of Wisconsin or Virginia.

Myself I'd like to get them back for 2010.

I am less scared of Virginia if Anderson is still out; but yes, teams that play our style scare me the most.

I just pulled up ESPN's latest bracketology and below is the list I accumulated of teams I'd like to avoid (please keep in mind that I am pessimistic when it comes to sports - must be because I'm a Cubs fan):

                      High seeds
Kentucky - undefeated and I think their length would give us trouble
Virginia - seems like UNI with better athletes, they'd beat us at our own game
                      Wisconsin - similar to Virginia
Kansas - not because I don't think we could beat them, but they wouldn't be overlooking us this time

                      Mid/Lower seeds
Michigan State - Tom Izzo in the NCAA Tournament, no thanks, saw that once before
Temple - destroyed Kansas and their only bad loss was on the road at St. Joseph's
NC State - has beat Duke at home and just won at Louisville, very streaky
Any team we've already played once

I just don't see Virginia being that similar to us. They're frankly a pretty poor shooting team from the outside. They really rebound well, which is much more of a struggle for us. Defensive, for sure, but that's it.

Not sure a press scares me, as how many teams have 2 true point guards? I'd welcome it, really.

A team that can guard Tuttle one on one but also shoot the outside shot is what seems would give us the most trouble. If you don't have an elite defender inside (and who can defend outside) to slow down Tuttle, we're a nightmare to play.

Wisky and Virginia both will be trying to mesh a key player back into their system. Even though Wisky has been close to lights out without Jackson expect the senior to get plenty of reps by the time the dance cards are drawn on the most exciting day in sports Selection Sunday. The same goes for Justin Anderson at Virginia. Countless times I have witnessed chemistry issues when the above transpires. Of course Bo and Bennett are 2 of the best but when this happens in the month of March some red flags have to go up. Logic dictates these players will be welcome additions at crunch time BUT.... Both of these teams are legit threats to win it all. We have more depth than Wisky and the Tuttle/Frank match-up would be a draw. Wisconsin is a team I would want to play and I respect them a lot.

Kentucky will sleep on us if we play them in the Regional Semi-Finals. If the game somehow is played with a trip to INDY on the line in front of the Kentucky contingency any team with that match-up is in trouble. That would be the ONLY game I would want to avoid if I had to. No team matches up well with them although LSU with Mickey & Martin almost pulled it off. To beat kentucky we would need to do what Napier and Boatright did to their guards in the National Championship game. They added Ulis and Booker but the recipe is the same. I think Wes and Deon could do it though.

Duke, Kentucky, Northern Iowa and Gonzaga would make a great Final4. Although I would be rooting against Duke and Kentucky big time. Duke over Virginia only because of the Anderson injury.

Iowa State has to be considered a dangerous team.

I have the full detailed scouting report on Villanova. We can follow through on that and beat them. Although other teams will get torched.
