If last month in CF was the first time in 30+ years that two valley teams have met while ranked, have two valley teams ever met with combined rankings like this? I'd be surprised.

Not hard to argue this is the biggest regular season game in league history.

The Valley was created in 1907 and previously had "elite" teams such as Kansas, so I wouldn't be surprised if two teams that faced each other back in 1926 had higher rankings that WSU and UNI have today.

The poll didn't start until 1948 for basketball, and even then it wasn't weekly until the 50's so there is probably a better chance than you think.

Except you still had elite teams like Cincinnati with Big O in the 50's and 60's

All I had to do was look.

In '72 Louisville and Memphis met twice while ranked, the last time that has happened in Valley play. They were 4/11 the first time and 2/20 the second. Drake and Louisville were 11/15 in '69 as well.

The first of those '72 matchups certainly equals or exceeds this, I suppose.

This is also only the 10th time the league has had two 25 win teams, but only once have two 25 win teams met in the regular season (Bradley/Oklahoma St in '51). It has happens two additional times in the league tournament (once involving UNI). Of course, of those 10 occurrences, six have been since 2008, once involving UNI.
