  • Panther Nation's Best of the Best

Even though the season abruptly ended on a sad note last night, it would still be fun to reminisce on the best memories of the '14-'15 season. Let's end the year in a positive way. Some of the best, in my opinion, were:

    1) McLeod atmosphere during the home game vs. Wichita St. - probably shouldn't take much explaining for this choice. Unreal environment that Panther Nation hasn't frequently seen in the past. Also, the national attention started growing exponentially after this point.

    2) MVC Tournament final - After a handful of years of being down in STL and seeing a first-round exit consecutively, it was unbelievably awesome to see the Panthers bring back the title again. The Championship game itself was enough to make the experience one for the ages.

Agree? Disagree? What were some of the other highlights that topped the cake?

Top ten ranking - cyclown rage ensued. (texas tech would win the valley)

losing to iowa at halftime hold them to 15 in 2nd half - hawkcrys rage ensued

tons of dunks, this team was actually really fun to watch.

National attention was the most exciting part for me. most importantly for me was that it was all during the regular season and not after a win over kansas or another big name team in the tourney. We were shown a great deal of respect from the major media outlets that cover the sport. It leaves me with great hope that we could win big on the recruiting front.

I forgot one! The early morning early season win at SFA. I knew that day... I had a feeling... That we were in for a heck of a fun year.

For me I am not sure that it has happened yet, I think that it is just where this season, this team, and these players and coaches put UNI at this year, yes the 2010 had an amazing season and I still remember things that happened that year, but I think their biggest contribution to the program is bringing some of these players to UNI. I have no doubt that with everything that has happened this year more and more big name recruits will consider UNI a little more, and we will land a few.

It was also awesome to see the McLeod be the McLoud Center again, and have a full weekend in St. Louis with a title, it really sucks going down there and not even playing on Saturday.

It was also an awesome season on the message boards, seeing the Cyclone fans cry that we were ranked higher, listen to the Iowa fans wonder about what could have been if they would have looked a little harder at a few of our players, and it is always nice to have stupid petty complaints on here, it just means that things are going well with the team

                  That's a hell of a list.

Did all that really happen in one season? That's like 10 years worth of cool stuff.

Buss's game winner at Ill St was spectacular. That was the type of game that only special, championship type teams win. Play like dog crap for 30+ minutes yet just find a way to steal the game anyway. When Nate received that pass, there was simply NO DOUBT that the shot was going in and we were going to steal the game. What a huge shot of adrenaline that game was.

Also, hosting the huge top 25 clash in an electric McLeod and showing out in an incredible performance made for a truly unforgettable game.

Overall, I was just overwhelmingly happy for those guys and that group of seniors that they got to go out as champions and in the NCAA tournament like they deserved.

He's such a great ambassador for this university. I hope he reads PN because he is a stud and I wish that all students on UNI's campus had even 10% the passion that he and many others have for the Purple and Gold. The athletics department needs to hire him to do all their promotional and team videos for life.

My daughter shared UNI December Athlete of the Month with Seth Tuttle and David Johnson. Or should I say that they shared it with her? Seriously, I'm so glad she got to experience a MBB season like this during her time at UNI.

I said the same thing as soon as that game was over. The UNI teams of the past couple years dont win a game like that. I knew when we won that one that we had a special team (I was thinking an NCAA Tournament at-large, probably a 10 or 11 seed), but I never would have guessed that we would reach the new heights that we did this season. All the credit goes to the players and coaches.
