Bo Ryan retires, effective immediately
Slightly OT, but a lot of people think Wisconsin is at the top of Jakes list if/when he would move on from UNI. Wisconsin has been struggling, but I didn't see that comingTo avoid confusion - my username is baseball (Cy Young award) related, NOT for the Cyclones.Tags: None

Re: Bo Ryan retires, effective immediately
Jake will definitely be at the top of Wisconsin's interview list. Think of the style Bo Ryan plays with. The defense they're known for, that's the way Jake coaches. UNI and Wisconsin have close door scrimmages before the season. Jake also develops players the way Bo Ryan has done. I think Bo Ryan will have some say in who they interview/hire.

Noticed a fairly recent post about Jacobsen as a replacement for Bo. Someone makes reference that they heard in June of Jacobsen's interest in the position.

Re: Bo Ryan retires, effective immediately
In Bo's press conference he mentioned wanting to do this around June, but with Gard focusing his father's cancer and with Bo wanting to make sure Gard was in a good position to get the job they decided to put this hold till the end of the semester so its been in the making for some time now.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out. WI is 7-5 right now, could easily be 10-2, and are a shell of team that played in the championship game last year. Gard definitely has an opportunity to show what he can do given where they are right now. I think if Gard makes the tournament that the job is his, but if not they open it up. I know a lot of people like Tony Bennett for the job, but UVA tried to lock him up as best they could with a new contract that has a $3M buyout tied to it.

Re: Bo Ryan retires, effective immediately
Wisconsin wasn't exactly the greatest to Tony's father, IIRC. I don't know how much interest he would have. Maybe others who remember that era better can speak to this with more clarity. The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

Bo Ryan retires, effective immediately
I think the whole point of Bo doing this was for the purpose of his assistant Gard to get the greatest opportunity to succeed and to at least guarantee him a shot at this. I wouldn't worry unless he completely bombs out.UNI FIGHT

Re: Bo Ryan retires, effective immediately
I think it makes it less likely. With Ryan leaving in the middle of the season, Alvarez probably isn't likely to do him any favors.Originally posted by '70 Grad View PostDo you think the mid-season move makes it more likely that Gard gets the job than if Bo left at the end of the season?"And immediately, (P'Allen Stinnett's) Facebook status was spouting vulgarities towards the university."

Re: Bo Ryan retires, effective immediately
I think this is Alvarez's favor to Bo. Feels like Alvarez hesitant on Gard and Bo knows it which is why he is doing everything he can so that Gard will get the job.
My worry is how this will affect UNI recruiting and even this season since Jacobson's name was quickly put on the short list by almost everyone. Its going to be something that likely lingers for 4 monthsLast edited by otter; 12-16-2015, 08:50 AM.

Really, really, really wish Jake didn't have that clause in his contract where he can pick 2 schools every year where his buy out is capped at $1 Mil. If he ever does leave it would sure be nice to get a big payday from the power school that takes him."I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

If the news could have waited about 3 weeks it would have been best.Originally posted by ubuntuCAT View PostReally, really, really wish Jake didn't have that clause in his contract where he can pick 2 schools every year where his buy out is capped at $1 Mil. Get past the date on that clause, but now we didn't.
