Re: Bo Ryan retires, effective immediately

Jake took a hard look at Texas A&M but couldn't pull the trigger. If he is offered UW, he gone. There is no comparison between those two jobs...money aside.

Howard Moore was hired by Greg Gard today. He was a big time recruiter at Wisconsin and then got the UIC head coaching gig. He had been on BTN this year prior to this hire.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

Re: Bo Ryan retires, effective immediately

Last night on KXNO were talking about Jake and Wisconsin. Some of the things in this thread were brought up in the conversation. They were deciding WI would go elsewhere and maybe not the best job for Jake. I was thinking about this as the Cyclone guy on the show was a little sneery regarding Jake that I thought about a relationship and where Jake would land:

If Murray State and Steve Prohm is Iowa State's hire, then
Northern Iowa and Ben Jacobson is ____________'s hire.

        Fill in the blank.

Maybe they'll hire Freddy. Things aren't going to well in Chicago.

I think Gard will do well enough to keep the job full time.

Their big 10 slate is pretty favorable.

There are rumors out there that Bo resigned because of an affair he was having with an employee of the athletic department.

Rumor has it that Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan stepped down because he will be facing some crazy allegations from several women? No clue what that means, but

this wouldn't be the first time this has gone down in Madtown. There were many before him on the football side that laid (no pun) the groundwork for this offensive...

Jake's salary is or will soon will be $1 mill.

What will the next guy expect to be paid when Ben leaves? Will donor funds dry up?

Looks to me like a precedent has been set that we can't afford.

The new AD hire will be a critical piece if there is a decision to be made.

If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

I hate to speculate on something that might not even happen, but if Ben leaves I'd be completely shocked if somebody other than one of the guys on our current coaching staff was hired. We have a system that works and these guys know it best. Ben's system is similar to what McDermott did when he was here, focusing on D and getting good looks on O. We don't have the money to make a big hire and if you're not going big, why waste years transitioning to a likely unproven new coach who might have a completely different style? Makes no sense to me. Kyle Green is a guy who has been coaching for a long time, has paid his dues at UNI, and he apparently really enjoys it here because he's left twice and come back each time. Moneywise he's not going to start where Ben is at, but I'm sure he'd get a hefty raise from where he's at. I would fully expect him to take over, but that's just my opinion.

I beg to differ on the offense being based on "getting good looks". Actually, it is just the opposite. We are one of the nations leaders in 3's attempted year in & year out. It is a feast or famine offense. It is a rather ironic offensive approach when you consider the commitment to defense that the staff has. Getting "good looks" on offense would be one where we pound the ball inside. That has never been the case with this staff & is one of the knocks. Even when we had big men, many times they have been more of the Euro type where they shot perimeter shots rather than interior.

Agreed. But hopefully we don't find out any time soon

As I said when this speculation began long before, it ain't gonna happen. Wisconsin will be able to demand something a whole lot bigger and better.

All will be well, other than the fact that we've done got hoodwinked.

Love to hear what your issues are with Coach Jake? Is it all due to 1 game 5 years ago where the players missed some open looks from 3? Is it because he gets paid more than wrestling coaches? Did you interrupt him eating dinner with his family and he declined to take a picture with you and now you are out to get him?

No issues at all; I always support all UNI coaches, through thick and thin. I just think the rose colored glasses are on with a bunch of people on here if they think he'd be a top candidate at Wisconsin.

Yes, I was a little critical the one night after the Mitchigaan State loss, but that's water under the bridge now.

Has my full support, as do all of our coaches and athletes, which my posts should reflect.
