Every great game day experience we have at UNI stems from a packed and rowdy student section. That will lead to more tickets sold, more fan buy-in, ect.

Do whatever the heck we need to do to get the students to the games.

Having things like the Interlude Dance (not necessarily it) that are uniquely ours will help a great deal.

It would be nice if a few more students were regular in this forum. Perhaps that would translate into a stronger core of student fans.

That actually keeps me from going to events. It continues to be the most disturbing thing that I ever see in my life.

not that you pay that much attention to these things
Number of times on Sports Illustrated cover:
Ben Jacobson coached teams = 2
UNI teams coached by everyone ban thinks is better = 0

Go to about one football and basketball game each per year. Rasslin season ticket holder though for 20 years, through thick and thin!

That's about the number of times the Interlude has been played in 2015.

To be clear, it is not about the Interlude Dance, it is about having things that are uniquely ours that bring students to the games and help them to have a good time. For a while, the Interlude Dance helped in this regard. Creating new things that students get excited about (many of which they should create for themselves) is part of building a culture that thrives while they are students and afterwards.

P.S. The activities during timeouts of basketball games are pretty good at McLeod. Much better than at Hilton (with the exception of an occasional great half-time feature). I'm not sure folks appreciate how good those are.

The one thing that disappoints me is how the UNI athletic department approaches how they get fans in the McLeod. I follow most of the MVC schools and others and they really push their athletics and use the social media to fill up the gym. As a UNI fan we usually get some tweets the day before and day of. Sure we have the Courier and gazette that usually have a story on the upcoming game but not all of us live in those areas. Most students come to watch if something is given away and if your a real fan you don't need a reason. Every game is the same for entertainment and is getting boring for supportive fans. The UNI Mens basketball Facebook page is seldom updated. I have no idea who takes care of the social media but it needs to be better. Maybe offer an internship to have someone handle this. Rima does a great job on all games keeping us posted but as a fan we need a facelift on getting these fans fired up to see our panthers. We are one of the top mid major basketball schools in the nation we need to act like it. Support our Panthers!

Hand out $5 bills to students as they leave the game.

UNI fans have proven time and again they will show up in droves if the price is right.

$1 Volleyball Tickets? 7,000 in the McLeod for a VOLLEYBALL game.
$5 Football Tickets? 17,000 in the Dome three games in a row.
$5 Basketball Tickets? 2,000 tickets sold in 4 days to watch South Dakota State.

I'm not advocating for crazy ticket specials during every game. Charge a ton for games/seats with very little price sensitivity (first 10 rows/courtside/UNC/WSU) and do whatever it takes to fill up the arena against Colorado State and North Texas.

It will cost a family of four $80 to watch UNI play against Bradley tomorrow night from the North Bleachers. IMO a weekday game ticket against a crappy team over the Holidays should be about $10.

The problem with that solution lies with the season ticket holders. Why spent hundreds on season tickets when I could buy the big games and then get 5 dollar tickets to all the rest?

Charging your most loyal fans 20 dollars for the same seats other can buy for 5 is a slap in the face. Maybe I'm biased as a season ticket holder, but every time they offer those cheap tix deals, the value of my season tickets go down, while costing me the same.

I still push that the answer lies with the student section. If that's full and rowdy, people will enjoy themselves and come back, even at regular prices.

Honest question: the team wasn't having a hard time packing the McLeod Center last season, were they?
