Re: LeBron just went below the belt on UNI
Obviously we would all take back that 40 seconds of basketball if we could. But that, combined with our now multiple tournament miracles, means anyone and everyone who cares about college basketball knows who we are.
You could make the argument that's been the case for a few years now, but there's no question our program is now a household name.__________________

Re: LeBron just went below the belt on UNI
He has every right to be critical, but it's what he specifically said that's below the belt and stupid. Some criticism of what happened is legit and accurate, but the context of his comment was classless. Let me guess...he's taking branding and PR lessons from Donald Trump?
As far as him being a quitter for leaving Cleveland, that's stupid too. He left Cleveland for perfectly legit reasons. It's the way it was handled that was kind of dumb, but leaving and going upmarket made perfect business sense. Lebron's no dumb guy, and overall seems to have a pretty good handle on the business side of being Lebron.

Re: LeBron just went below the belt on UNI
I've always thought LeBron is a self-entitled clown. The emergence of Curry and the Warriors in the west makes any talk of a title completely irrelevant at this stage of his career. Wake me up when he attempts to arrange another "superteam". What an a$$hat.Give us a yell, HO! The purple and the gold
Victory for U-N-I!
Find out what the other team wants to do, then take it away from them.

No. It was pretty obvious he wasn't being serious, actually. Watch the video (conveniently not included in the OP). He and the reporters are all laughing. Bad joke? Low blow? Sure. But he wasn't serious.Originally posted by rhoho View PostNo. Pretty obvious he was being serious

The far bigger/sad deal for me is we are no longer the school that beat Kansas. Or the school with that little guy that made that one shot. We are now the school that blew that lead. Just last night in both NIT games with one team up double digits and approx 1 min left the announcers reminded us of what can happen a la UNI. We will be hearing about this during every similar situation for eternity. Sucks. But what can you do now? I certainly don't hope it happens to someone else.

If nothing else, I hope the guys coming back to use this as bulletin board fodder to help spur their desire for a come back and redemption. I know that's what I would do. I have no doubts that's what they will do as well!
That said, this still rubs me the wrong way. I wish nothing but the best for the Warriors to go out and kick their butt this year! They are much easier to like anyway.

It is what it is. You don't want that rep, then win the game. Some tourney success in the next couple of years can help overcome what you state above. We'll be just fine as long as we can get a couple of wins on a national stage.Originally posted by UNI MadCat View PostNo. It was pretty obvious he wasn't being serious, actually. Eternity? nah. We're not even a week out, thus it is still fresh in everyone's minds. But I'm guessing it will fade from peoples memories fairly quickly.Originally posted by UNI MadCat View PostThe far bigger/sad deal for me is we are no longer the school that beat Kansas. UNI will still be remembered as the team that beat Kansas. Ali's shot will still be remembered. Jesperson's shot will still make highlight reels/montages. Yes, the TAMU loss will still be referenced occasionally for the next year or two, but it won't be the defining characteristic of UNI basketball.
It was a 3-seed beating an 11-seed (who was missing one of their key players during that segment due to injury). Big whoop.
