  • Prime Time League

I saw this over on the Hawkeye board and thought I would share:

The best PG in either gym was some incoming FR at UNI, from Wisconsin. #13 McCloud. 6'0 tall. Slender. Tough as nails. Plays above the rim, good shooter, great passer and great defender. One of the highest basketball IQs that I've seen in awhile. I don't know how he got out of the state of Wisconsin.

I also saw that Lohaus put up 32 last night. Couldn't find anything on any other players.

Lol, I was excited enough for this kid now the PTL will make it even more. Good reviews from a few people on Twitter, I'd be shocked if he's not starting from day 1. Lohaus/Carlson are teamed up with Jok, but apparently Jok wasn't there yesterday.

Yeah, I'm 99.9% certain we'll see McCloud, Lohaus, Morgan, Carlson, and Koch as your starters for the year.

6'0 tall? Dang, that's a nice growth spurt.

Ben Jacobson coached teams = 2
UNI teams coached by everyone ban thinks is better = 0

That starting 5 though. And with Lohaus and Morgan, McCloud won't need to handle the ball as much. With a solid schedule, good looking roster, and a couple of good seasons in a row, I have not been this excited for a season in a while.

Do we have any panther fans here that go to these PTL games? Would be better to hear their perspective rather than that of hawkeye fans on their forums. Reading through them however, it was pretty clear that McCloud turned heads with his speed and shot, and even saw some mentions of Hunter Rhodes standing out. Even if this is just based off of one day in a summer league, it still gets me excited for the coming season.

                    Re: Prime Time League

I just came back from visiting family and friends in Iowa for the first time in too long. One friend who went to UNI with me but is an Iowa fan (I don't get it either) and attends PTL games said exactly word for word the same thing about McCloud. Maybe he posted the comment. Anyway his son agreed with him. Talked a lot about McCloud's shooting range. Makes me feel better about PG for next season. He complained that there's no way Iowa is beating UNI next year. He also liked Adam McDermott a lot too.

"Lot of people talked about Ohio State or Georgetown or Michigan State or whoever, [or] Maryland in our bracket. When the brackets came out, the first team I looked at was Northern Iowa," Kansas Coach Bill Self.

One Hawkeye blogger paid some compliments to Dahl and Friedman on their first games.

Glad to read this. Koch's continued improvement, along with finding other bigs who can contribute quality minutes, will be a big key to next year. We need some solid 5 play from the 3 mentioned here. Carlson is not a 5, and we'll be behind the 8 ball if you see him playing there a lot with 4 gaurds. Occassional mismatches are great, but no way to win consistently. I'm also interested to see McDonnell (sp?). Didn't want to leave him out.

4 guard lineup almost took us to the sweet 16 last year. I think we need Karlson at the 4, but that's because we don't have as good of guards/bigger guards this year.

Carlson at the 5 should not be underrated.

With 4 guards and Klint.... he becomes unguardable for teams with a 5 man who's not quick enough.

                            What a weapon.
Winning is more fun than losing.

lol, this is precisely the strategy & lineup that propelled our run through February and March. Carlson at the 5 was crushing teams, and this was high level competition (WSU x2, A&M, Evansville, Tex, etc).
