Most anticipated home game for 2016-17

    Most anticipated home game for 2016-17

    I thought it would be fun to see what everyone's thoughts were on what their most anticipated home game of 2016-17 would be for UNI this season. I expect that Wichita State would be the obvious pick, but if it's not, feel free to state otherwise below!

    So, what is your most anticipated UNI non-Wichita game in the McLeod Center this year?
    (Edit: could only put 10 games down so I eliminated Bradley, which was on a Wednesday night and the least competitive games on average the past couple years. Again, feel free to state that this is your favorite game below if that is so!)

    Non-con- South Dakota State. TJ has brought in some pretty good talent and the cupboard wasn't bare to begin with. No idea if he's any good on the bench, but they have the talent to give us a game.

    Conference- Illinois State. Muller has an athletic group but coaching and discipline are always a question. I'd pencil them in as the top of the next tier after us and the Shox

          I went with George Mason - because I'm ready for the season to start and see what the new players can do.
          We have what - three new PGs, a new SG, and two Forward/Centers? Exciting year with some good teams on the schedule.

                I'm honestly surprised that George Mason is getting as many votes as they have. I'm guessing it's because it's the first D1 home game of the year, but really wasn't expecting to see how wide of a margin it's outpaced the field.

                  Agreed.

                  Especially for a team that was picked 12th in the A10.

                    Probably name recognition. That's the only non-conf home game that initially caught my eye. They went to the FF in '06, and made big news in doing so. Dig deeper and S Dakota is a better matchup, but it's still a no name basketball school who plays in a crap league. The A10 is widely regarded as good. I'm talking brand perception here, which is probably more important than who would win (SDSU vs. GMU) in a matchup between the two schools. SDSU will need to make a lot more noise in the NCAA tourney to have any kind of brand recognition beyond the Dakotas.

                    All that said, I'll probably attend the SDSU game, since it appears to be a decent test for us.

                        I picked GM, I love getting strong mid-major programs that will give us home and home, I would rather see strong mid-major than an also ran in a power conference. That being said I did not realize George Mason was picked so far down this year.
