  • Midweek Happy Thoughts

The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

Every now and then I will listen to the end of that game on the UNI archive, as well as the football win against Texas State in last year's semis. I remember the WS game because my wife was watching the game on tv with the tv audio in one room and I was in another watching the game but with the radio broadcast. We went nuts. Our cat did not come out from under our bed for a couple hours because he was so freaked out. Come to think of it, the same thing happened with the Texas State football game but we had about 25 people at our house for the game.

I was sitting at Damon's in with 2317, Gonzo, Trump, and maybe jegbomb (my memory is getting a little fuzzy) watching the game. We got a call while at the restaurant that night from the Cedar Falls gamewatch (JC, BAP, etc...). That shot was amazing. I remember where I was sitting and remember a ton of 'man hugs' and high fives being distributed in the restaurant where NO ONE else was at. What an amazing night!

The responses to this post remind me of another great UNI B-ball moment...Mo Newby hitting a last second, game winning three to upset Missouri in the first round of the NCAA tourney. I graduated the year before, played hookie to watch the game in the bar at the downtown DSM Marriott, and got a bunch of voicemails in my office from friends saying the hill was swamped with revelers. Gotta love it, both are great moments.

I screamed so loud from the living room I drew my wife from bed, granted it was a pretty small apartment at that time, she was really pissed at me, and then found out why I was screaming and then she joined in on the replay.

After extensive review the best part of that video above is the total let down and disbelief of the WSU fan taping it. So funny. That feeling sucks ass as a fan, but somehow in that case its just very funny.

I was still in high school. I was listening to the game on the internet on the radio. That was really cool.

Newby's shot heard 'round the world.

I agree that Newby's shot was the best ever. A close friend and I were at the O.P. (it was packed) and after the shot, people went to the street, high-fiving, etc. I, of couse had to keep my composure (and many of you know why) but it was fun to be there. Billy Packer COULD NOT say enough about the Panthers, and the accolades expressed after that game, as well as Sunday's against Minnesota was something to be remembered. Another thing ... can many of us remember anything significant about Jason Reese's last made bucket as a Panther? It was a dunk. I called that to his attendtion last year in St. Louis, and he wondered how many people remembered. It was good seeing him and Dale Turner again. They both remembered those two guys (my friend and I) who always sat under the South basket on the baseline, game after game. So ... players DO remember loyal fans - they appreciate everyone.
