  • 5-0

This is the first time we started a season 5-0 since 2014-15 when we started 9-0.

I really like this team so far. The defense is really good for 90% of the game and I think Coach Jake will make that even better. The offense is better because of the talent and the change in offensive style.

Of course we will start playing some more talented teams but we are playing well against the teams we should beat.

Man, it'd really be nice to get the 2 wins in Cancun. West Virginia isn't the team they've been the last few years, then I would LOVE to face Wichita St again. Jake always seems to have the guys ready for these preseason tourneys, hopefully this year is no different.

I don’t think we’ve played anywhere close to our best basketball, if we can clean up a few things we could be darn good.

I'm a "this is the year every year" kinda guy, but I'm not getting too excited yet. We are 5-0, but it's against less than stellar competition. I'm waiting to see what happens in Mexico. I don't need to see 2-0 to be satisfied, but I do want to see competitive games. If so, then I'll be fully on board for the year.

While the teams we have played haven't been name brand, I do think that we have played a schedule of teams that will be successful in their own conferences.

We have been favored every game, so really 5-0 shouldn't be a big surprise. Next week, just based on the N Colorado point spread at UNI and at WVU, I'm guessing we'll be about 6 point dogs to WVU. It would be nice to win a game we're not supposed to. If it means anything, we are 4-1 against the spread though.

A lot of promise but we are playing a ridiculous amount of minutes by the top 6. If we can't get freshmen in the game up 20 points, I don't see us being able to sustain over the conference season. Did anyone see Luke not contributing at all this year coming into the season?
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

I did see that, yes. Luke and JD are solid backup bigs that were forced into larger roles due to injury last year.

What the **** does the spread have to do with it?

Let me know the next time the ATS decides records or seeding/standings/bids

Not sure about you, but I wouldn't be too happy winning a game by 3 if we're favored by 15, like we were last night. I see a spread as a measure of what the general public think about us - since Vegas job is to get an equal amount of money on each side. To me, constantly covering says were doing better than what people might expect. Hell, the committee looks at a million things, I wouldn't be overly surprised if they looked at it, or something similar. But if we're only supposed to talk about what we 100% know directly impacts seeding, let me know.

Would I be happy WINNING a game?

That should be the end of that statement.

I couldn't give a single fart about what Vegas puts a money line on. That's all it is. A number they think they can sucker people into better on.

I guess we should be pretty pissed off if we go 30-0 and have a delta of 30. That means we won every game by 1 point. Clearly garbage ATS. Sure, we won but only by 1.

Now, if we go 0-30 but we cover the spread every single game? Pop the bubbly boys. We were 30-0 ATS

Lol, clenz, you are really good at reading people's minds and coming up with absolutely ridiculous assumptions. You did it last week to somebody else, I wish I could remember who/what it was in regards to. Let me simplify it for you.

Yes, wins are and always will a #1 priorty.

If we won by 3 last night as a 16 point favorite is that going to make me a little nervous going forward? Yes.

If we beat Cornell by 2 tonight am I going to feel great? No.

If we play Duke as a 16 point dog, but we lose by 2 how will I feel? I'll be pissed we lost, but hell yea I'm also going to feel pretty good about the effort and the team going forward

If there's 2 situations - winning by 2 vs UTM as a 16 point favorite, or losing by 2 to Duke as a 16 point dog - I'm going to walk away from the Duke loss feeling better about the team going forward than I am the UTM win. Maybe it's just me though.

There are teams you SHOULD beat down. Last night was one of them. You can't continuously barely sneak past bad teams and expect to beat the good teams imo.

Agreed. 30-0 against the spread isn't 30-0 in general, but all wins and losses aren't equal. To say it has 0 indication/worth is irresponsible.

the spread is literally a made up number by people paid by casinos to get people to bet on the game to make the casino money.

It's only an indicator of the line where Vegas can make money, not where Vegas sees the team in relation to each other.

You’re right and wrong at the same time. If we’re a -22 favorite then Vegas is putting a line that high because ppl wouldn’t bet on it at -10. Vegas isn’t necessary saying you’re better but they are saying the public knows you’re better so we set it at -22. When it’s closer, like -3 or so then yeah, you could make your argument that they move the line for the bets and they aren’t actually picking who the better team is. When the odds are so high, the reason behind it is clear. If we’re favored by 15 or so (clear indication we’re better) and win by only 1, ppl will walk away worried.
