  • That went about as horrible as it could have gone. The refs did let them play, and it is pretty obvious that "letting them play" does not work in this matchup. I agree with what others said previously that this is just not a good matchup for us.

Every time we started to get a little close, Loyola went on a run. That's what good teams do, and it's obvious they are a good team.

I agree that our offense looked stagnant and the lack of movement was concerning, but I also think that's a product of the physical defense Loyola plays.

I'm excited to watch the guys in the NIT, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed in the game today. Drake will have their hands full without Wilkins tomorrow, but they may be in Loyola's head a bit with the fact they swept them this year.

    • I'd venture to say we'll draw the 7 line in the NIT. I believe that's where we were 8 years ago. So, we're an underdog on the road there too.

I would be heartbroken if that happened.
Who knows. Judging by his reaction on the bench I got the feeling it's over. I think he would benefit from one more season of college ball. Maybe, it will be enough to be someone's 13th guy. As for transferring, again, who knows. As far as Europe, I hate for him to do it, but he has to go where the opportunities lie. May peace be with you, kid.

Not because he stinks it up (he’s the player of the year ffs), but because everyone is so reliant on him that us winning depends on how he plays that day, not how the team plays that day. I would rather have 5 good players that make a great squad then 1 superstar who everyone looks to make plays.

That said, he should come back and give it one more year. He has nothing to lose by coming back.
I think we're a 5th or 6th place team without Green and Phyfe. We just might get to see it next season. It would be too late to fill those two scholarships. So, we would have to carry them over into the 23-24 season. This all speculation, though.

            • I hate to admit it, but in the future post Green and Phyfe era we're probably going to be average for a considerable period of time. By average I mean 4th to 6th place. Recruiting is a tough gig for us. UNI is a tough sell. It's a suitcase school that sits on top of a hill in a boring town that gets windy and cold in the Winter. Yes, we have success recruiting Iowa, Minnesota, and Missouri. However, that's it. Another problem is lack of money and recruiting resources. I don't think our coaches are good at selling UNI despite their basketball knowledge. Perhaps, all of the MVC schools are suitcase colleges, but the rest of our league have either better climate or are located in a good sized city. Some have both.

but what do you expect for a million dollars.

I guess a score board hanging over the court would have helped. Based on your posts.

and Farley will stop playing to lose as soon as he gets a meeting room. Something like that.
It was actually a win for a conference championship, so a little more than a "nice moment". But since you're not really a fan and probably shotgunned 7 Busch Lights during the game, I don't expect you to understand that.

why would it be too late? Couldn't they find two players from the transfer portal and offer them scholarships?

We know he wasn't buying beers. He's got a strict $3 beer budget.

You and your fancy Olive Garden tastes just don't understand what it's like to be a commoner.

I don't even know why I engage. Weird that he showed up after today rather than after 'the game that he was at'...

They can. We usually don''t, though.

                        The 2:00-4:00 mark seems relevant.

                        • I'm still scratching my head at that performance. I mean I expected this to be a really tough game, I didn't expect us to have absolutely no chance the entire game. Even though we got it to 8 a time or two it was never really close.

Loyola's game plan was to smother Green. So naturally UNI's plan was to stand around and then get it to Green. Talk all you want about some of the missed open shots but if 2/3 of the shots weren't terrible those others wouldn't have mattered.
"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

                          • Yeah, I really wouldn't expect this team to be better without Green. I'm not even sure I'd expect them to be better WITH Green considering what's being lost which could be a combined 100 minutes a game.

Usually going into the offseason I expect them to be better, but this one I'm not even if I still like the makeup of the team... So of course that means they're gonna be better lol. They could also make a key acquisition through the portal so we'll see, but as of now we sit at a 5 of Born-Heisse-Anderson-Carter-5th guy(Kimmons... Maybe?) Probably good enough for a hopeful 4-6 like mentioned earlier.

                            • Please rename this thread the “AJ Green’s next move we know Jack sh!t about but will speculate anyway based on nothing.”

Does anyone remember these exact same threads last year? Many had virtual guarantees he’d never set foot on our court again. And alas many were wrong.

Also the comments that we wasted his time here and got nothing is just crazy talk. Two conference titles in the past two years he was (relatively) healthy is fantastic. Did we screw the pooch a bit in St Louis? Sure. But regular season are a true show of a champion. Conf tournaments are made for tv (and sponsor) events. They suck and are BS spoilers for midmajors. They need to go away.

And will AJ go away? Maybe. Maybe not. Who knows? (I know none of you do.)
