First upset of the tournament happened in the 5/12 matchup between High Point and Wisconsin. Let's make it happen tomorrow!

Good start, hold our own on the boards, make them shoot 3s, we need to make a bunch of 3s, play from ahead, put game pressure on them.

      That gives us a shot!

Remember this post from Newsbreaker on the morning of another March 20 many years ago:

        “Boys, today is the day.

Maybe our band of misfit toys will do what the entire country thinks they will do. Maybe they will be unable to stand up to Goliath. Maybe they won't have enough. Maybe they will find that sheer will isn't a match for NBA-level talent. Maybe they will find that however absolutely unforgettably great this season has been it just isn't on par with the best the nation has to offer. Maybe KU is 12 points or more better than our team. Maybe we are a 2nd tier team. Maybe we are a footnote to history. Maybe we aren't good enough.

Or maybe we make history. GO CATS!”

The thing I worry about is their press. Historically that has been our kryptonite.

For anyone in San Diego there's a pregame rally at Novo Brazil Brewing Mission Valley at 1 pm PT.

Something about our team that may very well come in handy....they have played through shooting droughts during the game all year and they don't panic when playing from behind. Trey, Ben and Max don't get rattled. Two other factors: 1) Smith plays well against bigger guys and I hope can pester their bigs and get rebounds 2) I hope this is a game where Bond plays big and doesn't fade into the background

Reasons to be optimistic or at least less pessimistic

St John’s is rated 17th in KenPom. That is a 5 seed even if the strongest.

We went toe to toe with St Mary’s AT their place who is ranked 25th. We can for sure compete even if not playing the absolute best.

St John’s won 19 of 20 but they did do it in a weaker big east conference ranked 5th overall though there is a gap between 5 and 6. Only 3 bids this year. The MVC is not a nothing conference and they are in the A10/American category so our wins are not meaningless. You absolutely have to give credit for their 2 wins over UConn but I do think they have potential to play down. Does suck Pitino knows us and is probably prepared for the trap game.

I severely missed the ball on this one earlier in the season. Trey is the soul of this team but Tristian smith is the heart. We are just a much better team with him playing and the metrics absolutely back that up. His on off splits are ridiculous and he contributes to winning to this team the most by far. We are 2-6 without and 21-6 with him.I worry about foul trouble as he is prone to it, but as long as he can manage it and at least give us 22-25 minutes I think we got more than a shot.

We’ve won at least a game in the last 3 appearances. We’ve only been beaten by double digits once(13 to Louisville)

Agreed. If Smith can have his feet set and be jumping straight up when in the paint, that could lead to a few more offensive fouls on them. Get some racked up early and maybe rattle them a bit

Read somewhere he draws 5 fouls a game. We might have our own foul trouble here so we need pain on their side as well in this area

Simply don’t let them make another shot and they can’t set up their press

FFS, we are looking like a 16 seed against them. I just want this to be respectable at this point.
