I see ISU dropping out of the discussion with the criteria laid out publicly so far. ISU's schedule is only going to get harder in conference now that Nebraska and Colorado are leaving. That leaves ISU at the bottom looking up (in conference at least).

Iowa, Indiana & Wisconsin - Iowa has proximity, but is rebuilding from scratch. Indiana is in the same boat as Iowa other than being further away. The new coach thing is always a roll of the dice. Wisconsin is mentioned yearly in the big ten race, and they could always watch on the BTN - but it would be a chore to get to Madison on a regular basis in the winter.

isnt it amazing how the "Indiana" brand has fallen? i mean we are talking about one of the most successful programs in history who used to have their pick of players.

        Very true....
"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

I would replace the word amazing with sad. College basketball is better with Indiana in the mix. I am afraid that with all of the chaos since Knight's departure, its not an attractive job anymore. Alumni with NC expectations looking over your shoulder all the time - kinda like Kentucky (I used to live in the area, so I have a bit of an idea how this works). KY has sold its soul with Callipari. They better get back the the NC within the next three years, as the NCAA investigations have probably already started.

Umm, are you serious with this question??? Gordon Hayward is a lottery pick if he goes to North Carolina, let alone effing Purdue. If Hayward goes to Purdue, he the biggest stud on the team by far. Robbie Hummel could grab a few boards, shine his shoes, and have fun washing his jock after practice. He's light years behind Hayward.

Talent is talent - it doesn't matter if you're at Butler or Duke. Where you're drafted is the ultimate example of that - in both football and basketball. A NBA exec doesn't care where you went to school.

this is a ridiculous statement. in a case like hayward, talent doesnt get you to the lottery. developing that talent does. how much was hayward gonna develop with hummel entrenched as the starter? its not like hayward was a top recruit who was on the NBA radar in high school.

Are you serious? Gordon Hayward is light years ahead of Robbie Hummel as a player. Robbie Hummel will be damn lucky to make an NBA roster. He's a very good Big Ten player, but there's the massive difference between the Big Ten and the NBA. Gordon Hayward could and would chew him up and spit him out if they squared off.

Talent, and it's development, gets you drafted that high. Hayward has talent. Unfortunately for guys like Hummel, Adam Koch, the kid from Notre Dame, etc., there are a lot of guys in that size range who are really good athletes. To stand out of that talent pool, you need special skills. Hayward has those, and the others don't (at that level). Nothing against the other players, including Koch, but the NBA is the toughest league to make - in my opinion. It's also a collection of the world's greatest athletes.

If players are concerned about getting noticed, they need to be on a team that wins, not a team in a big conference.

Do you have a source to back up the BTN claim?

Secondly, the first/second rounds aren't drawing 40 million (ie, 10 million per game). Some games get huge ratings, others relatively little because of regionalization.

hayward is obviously a better player now, but how did he get to that point? he was not a highly recruited high school player. you dont wake up one day with lottery skills.

Hayward grew a lot late in high school I believe after he had committed to Butler, when he grew a few other coaches took a look but it was too late.

Maybe he ended up at Butler with the Hoosiers sucking....similar to the state of Iowa right now....
"We're not an ordinary school," said Fort. "We have tradition. We have a good team year after year. We rebuild, and it doesn't matter who we have coming back."

According to CBS, the first round averaged about 8M viewers this years.

Below is a link to the best rated big ten basketball game in three years (BT tourney final) and they estimate somewhere well north of 500K viewers. Based on this information, I'm guessing the average big ten game garners a few hundred thousand.

Regardless of the exact figures, the BTN exposure is a drop in the bucket compared to the NCAA tournament. If a kid really wants to get noticed, they need to get on a team who is going to be on CBS in March.

It is too bad he didn't choose UNI, but I am happy he didn't choose Iowa or ISU. The longer those programs stay in the cellar the better.
