Calling the food mediocre would be overstating the situation by 2 fold.

It's just a sports bar with bad food. In towns where there aren't any decent sports bars I could see being excited, but that isn't Cedar Falls. There are local businesses owned by local people to support.

Wild Wings pissed me off when I went in there for lunch and they had a special for something like 40 cent wings which I thought was a good deal. Then they charged me for each cup of Ranch and also for the celery. And 1 Guiness was like $6.
"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

Re: Buffalo Wild Wings coming to Cedar Falls!!

They usually have a ton of big screens with any game you could want on. The food isn't all that bad for what it is, and $6 for a Guiness doesn't sound too bad if it was a big one. They usually have some beer specials.

It's not fine dining, and it's not your favorite local pub, but it's a good option for getting together to watch games.

That said, I would tend to give my business to those who support the Panthers. Hopefully that will include BWW this fall.

I agree. Its probably a great thing for certain cities, but in a great small-ish college town like CF, there are many great local establishments that put places like that to shame. Mulligans, Peppers, Becks...

BWW is ok, but I'd much rather go to the OP, Beck's, Pepper's, Toad's, etc.

Based on the lines that I hear are found nightly at Old Chicago, this place will kill.

The restaurant choices in the College Square corridor have really improved over the last year the a half.

True. HuHot, Old Chicago (which I don't really like), the new Texas Roadhouse, and Sakura Japanese Steakhouse have all been nice additions (although TR was previously in the OC location). The Roadhouse is great for steaks and Sakura has outstanding Japanese cuisine (I highly recommend Sakura, as they also have several flat big-screens for game watching). HuHot is a family favorite, including our young children. That being said, I prefer the College Hill OP for pizza and Pepper's for burgers/fried appetizers and either for taking in a game.

My new favorite pizza place on the Hill is Norma Mae's Pizza and Pasta.

BWW is ok, but my favorite place to watch games is Beck's on University. I do hope BWW supports the Panthers though. I was actually at BWW in Mason City on March 18th to watch the first round of NCAA games (I came back to CF for the Panthers game). My friend and I were the only ones at BWW with UNI stuff. There was in fact NO UNI stuff in there at all, but plenty of Iowa State and Iowa merchandise on the walls. I found this funny, especially since Mason City is in the Northern part of Iowa and closer to UNI than Iowa.

I saw probably twenty Iowa fans walk in during the time I was there. I really wanted to ask them what time their game was in the tournament. Then when they stated they didn't make it, I would ask about the NIT. Then when they again said they didn't make it...silence would follow. I decided not to, but thought it would have been amusing. Here's to hoping this BWW supports the Panthers more than the Mason City one.

I don't understand the excitement over big chain restaurants.

"Look! We can get the exact same food here as we can get at any number of other locations!"

I used to have a co-worker who preferred Famous Dave's over an insanely great local BBQ place solely because "they made more sauces". Chili's, Appleby's, BWW, Perkin's, The Cheesecake Factory, Granite City Diner and all of those restaurants are all variations on Chotchkie's from the movie Office Space.

Zippys BBQ Shack is pretty good. Or at least I like their burger deal.
Can't really watch "the big game" (or any game) there, since all they have is one or two picnic tables sitting outside. but anyhow.

Big chains don't spontaneously generate. BWW (bw3 back then) was awesome when I was in college, but the closest one was chicago. Perhaps they get popular because they offer good food and atmosphere? Its not like some dude name Dave suddenly said "I am going to build 100 bbq restaurants!!!"
