If you want a drunkfest with a boring style of football, head to Iowa City. UNI has always pulled the families in. Bringing alcohol into the equation would be a very poor idea. Also, it only takes one time to ruin a family experience & they'll never be back. If you require PSC membership to drink then you get a more mature drinker & one that is way more likely to consume responsibly & behave accordingly. I have no problem targeting a much broader PSC membership based on an alcohol angle. That is the best of both worlds. If you act like a tool, then you lose the right. They will not likely do that since they have forked money over for the right.

i am a PSC member which pretty much ruins the theory that we are more mature.

I don't think selling beer is going to ruin anything, particularly the "family atmosphere." I've never found that to be true at other sporting events, and I don't know what would be different at UNI. Establishing a family section provides an alternative for those who feel they don't want their kids around people consuming alcohol.

Personally, I'd rather have a "drunkfest" with 17,000 in the building every Saturday than 8,000 sober people.

its funny, I would take Iowa's "drunk fest" for a game day atmosphere any time. You take the fair weathered families to kinnick Mudra, send the 70,000 loyal, loud, passionate, drunks up to Cedar Falls. I will buy them all a purple shirt and show them where to find the dome!

I'm probably a cynic, but looking at this from the AD's point of view I would think that creation of this committee suggests changes afoot from inside the AD's office. I have experience with groups like this and they are usually created as political cover for unpopular changes in past practice. The group is usually hand-picked to assure the "proper" result. Basically, it allows the sponsoring entity to get out in front of expected blow back and claim that it was 'driven' by a non-executive committee. Classic political maneuver. It's flip side is the creation of a 'blue ribbon' committee which is designed to deflate a crisis and wait out the movement that spawned it. Or I'm just a cynic....

C'mon now Oliver Stone...it's just a fan input group.

Good PR...proactively engaging your fan base...progressive thinking.

Is it so hard for UNI fans to give the LivePurple folks a little credit?

Lots of affirmation for a raffle to keep fans at games. Mixed response to selling beer.

Other ideas for improving the game day experience?

Someone already formed the committee back in 2005. It's called Panther Nation.

                              My thoughts on the raffle:

Approach a local area business to sponsor a weekly student give away, give them credit for a $6,000 donation as it could potential require a $6,000 payout.

During the break between the 3rd and 4th quarter a name will be drawn of a Undergraduate Student at the University to receive a $1,000 cash prize. In order to claim your prize you must make it to ticket window behind the student section in five minutes. Your student ID must have been scanned in indicating you didn't show up at halftime, and you win $1,000 cash!

14,000 under grad students, how many come to games? A third of that? This will drive students there, and encourage them to stay through the fourth quarter.

From a business standpoint, there is a 66% chance the name drawn isn't even at the game, a smaller chance yet that they remain the entire time. Hell, produce tee shirts that are purple that have to be worn at the game. You have to be wearing it when you pick up your prize.

At the end of the year, maybe you give out two prizes, if that. If you give out 3 I would be shocked.

Allow PSC members to bid on sideline tickets or being in the garage before the game. Minimum qualification is PSC member, but should should not have to give $10,000 just to be able to bid on this.

This idea is predicated on allowing kids under 18 to go along with an adult. Let the 16 yo kid that may turn into a star FB recruit in 2-3 years experience the energy of the garage with all of the jostling, sweat & swearing.

Then make certain that the hometown paper gets a press release featuring the kid describing how great the experience and campus was...
