I also do not get the fascination with the idea of charging for tailgating. I hate it when I feel like I am getting nickle and dimed. I donate to PSC for the right to hold our seats, I pay for the ticket, buy some gas, pay for the ability to park and enjoy family/friends, and finally the possibility a beverage/snack during the game. That doesn't even include putting a few bucks into a split the pot.

If we need the money that would be generated by parking, increase ticket fee by $0.50-$1 and create the same revenue without having to stand there with a hand out at every turn.

Plus, if I'm paying for parking, I'm asking for more... like a few more johns on the South side.

    Just my thoughts.

Doesn't mean that PSC and season ticket holders couldn't have parking included. I don't think the casual fan going to one or a couple games is going to care about a $5 parking fee. High school playoff fans pay that.

I'd rather see a parking fee than a ticket price increase

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'd rather pay another $.50 or $1 per game to avoid having to pay $5, or to have friends who join me every week to not have to bother paying $5.

The little extra revenue will tick some people off and would require the AD to organize one more thing every game day. And, include me in the group ticked off if we don't get another couple johns in the field and they charge us. Adding a minimal amount to the ticket would raise the same funds without the added activity and potential of ticking people off. At the end of the day the same money comes in, just a matter of how you collect it.

We can agree to disagree here.

Re: UNI Forming Fan Advisory Committee

So, we are back to discussing whether to charge for parking rather than how to enhance the gameday experience. What other ideas do you have or what have you seen at other schools that might work for us?

I think it helps when particular areas are given nicknames. Some of you who tailgate together might want to name your lot.

Similarly, giving nicknames to groups of fans is fun. Duke has the Cameron Crazies. Do we have a group of students or fans who deserve a cool name? For instance, I loved the guys who dressed up like Shaka for the MBB game. If they were to dress like the opposing coach, even just wearing a suit and tie, then they could be known as "the Coaches" and everyone near them could be in "the Coaches' Box." They could huddle during timeouts and put hexes on the opposing team.

We need more flags and banners on the main roads leading to the stadium, as well as on campus streets, parking lots, and buildings.

Similarly, maybe HyVee could put its logo on a UNI window flag and sell it at a discount. Or a fan club could underwrite a project to sell them to tailgaters at the first game for $5 so they have it for future games.

The mirror-hangers for access to particular lots are cool. Maybe as we name our tailgate areas, we can make our own hangers to display.

The "white out" games where everyone wears white are cool. Maybe for a rivalry game, a sponsor could provide t-shirts, maybe starting with the student section, but giving them out at half-time to dial up the fan support through the whole game.

I'm just trying to keep the discussion on gameday ideas. You have to assume the committee will read this thread. We have some who may be on the committee, but all of us can give our input here.

I *think* those in the Century Club used to get a parking benefit, back when the Dome first opened. I recall going to games with a friend whose dad was a member and he always got to park in the PEC lot, which was closed with a guy checking names to get it. My understanding was this it was tied to his Century Club membership.

No reason why that couldn't be considered (not the PEC lot) as a perk for PSC members with one of the closer lots. And, yeah, there has to be a perk in it (dedicated lot for those who pay or are members of PSC or whatever, shuttle service, every fifth car offered a car wash during the game by a student group, etc.). And, keep free parking as an option for those who want it.

Porta-potties is a necessity, regardless. That's more than a convenience, that is a health issue.

And I didn't make myself clear on the (small) tailgating fee - give the vehicle a sticker (something like "Official Panther Party Vehicle" which advertises the team and that there is tailgating that is fun and noticeable) that stays on the vehicle next to their "My Kid Is An Honor Roll Student" sticker if they chose to put it on AND gets them in for the entire season. And, use the proceeds to benefit tailgating in some way.
              "Well, that escalated quickly."

I would pay $5-$10 to park in the tailgate lots if the money collected would be used for more porta-potties, trash receptacles, etc.

We need purple porta-potties and trash receptacles!

Last year, I was on the Northwestern campus on the weekend of the Michigan State football game. Michigan State took over the small parking lots for tailgating. And I noticed that they even had porta-potties and dumpsters that matched the MSU green. It was impressive.

However, it was just a coincidence that Northwestern's disposal company used MSU green. For us, it must be purple on purpose!

would be a neat idea, I suppose. but IMO, not enough to spend alot of money on. I'd imagine all that sort of stuff is rented (at least the toilets), so it would be a matter of convincing whatever service they use to get purple portajohns.

On the flip side, certain opposing fans would probably enjoy "pissing on the other teams colors"

Anybody have an old firetruck (or other unusual vehicle) that you can take on a spin around the tailgate lots before each game. Some ISU fans do a nice job with their firetruck. It gets parked just across the street in front of the row of tents. I think they rent it for parties that include a ride around the stadium with the siren going.

Or maybe we can get one of these:

Ha! I know one of the co-founders of Pedal Pub, see them a lot in MSP in the summer and fall.

There is no franchisee in Cedar Falls yet, I bet they'd entertain panthering one up in purple and gold if someone in CF was interested.

I'm slightly offended by the idea of urinating and sh***ing in/on something purple and gold other than the hopes and dreams of Minnesota Viking fans. Now maroon and black or green and yellow? That's something I could get behind...err in...whatever.

They should put the logos of all of our conference foes inside the trough urinals in the Dome.
