During the break between the 3rd and 4th quarter a name will be drawn of a Undergraduate Student at the University to receive a $1,000 cash prize. In order to claim your prize you must make it to ticket window behind the student section in five minutes. Your student ID must have been scanned in indicating you didn't show up at halftime, and you win $1,000 cash!

14,000 under grad students, how many come to games? A third of that? This will drive students there, and encourage them to stay through the fourth quarter.

From a business standpoint, there is a 66% chance the name drawn isn't even at the game, a smaller chance yet that they remain the entire time. Hell, produce tee shirts that are purple that have to be worn at the game. You have to be wearing it when you pick up your prize.

At the end of the year, maybe you give out two prizes, if that. If you give out 3 I would be shocked.
I really like this, although the shirt requirement might be a bit much. I say that only because I am looking out for the well being of the students, knowing a handful of other students would show up having not washed that shirt more than once or twice during the season

Also I think giving them until 5-10 mins after the game would be best, that way they can interlude and enjoy the remainder of the game. In order to avoid people calling up friends and telling them they won and need to come to the Dome (I assume that's why you only gave them 5 mins from the announcement), if possible, the name should be randomly drawn from those who had their ID's scanned. I'm not sure if that's currently possible and that data is actually collected but that might generate better numbers than taking the name of any random student. The odds shift from 1 in 13,000+ to 1 in "X" number of attending students, thus encouraging more students to come as they figure are more likely to win.

Pre-game / team entrance has got to get much more polished. It went from being awesome to "bleh" in the past few years. Music needs to be much, much better and louder.
Use the new video board like crazy. Do a fan cam to get people off their arses. Used to do the loud meter graphic to get people loud in big situations but haven't seen that in years. Seems silly, but it does actually get people up out of their seats and making noise, which has gotten way too rare over the years. I mentioned music before but I think that is a huge thing. Don't let the atmosphere get quiet. Once it's quiet it is hard to get loud again. I know some people look afraid to yell because everyone will hear THEM. Luckily I'm not afraid of that. But my point is that if it is loud in the Dome already, then people will be more likely to get rowdy and won't be apprehensive to actually yell and clap for fear of someone "seeing or hearing them".
Get John Deere to sponsor our "Green Zone" when we get inside the 20 (other schools have the Case IH red zone) and do a video / graphic of TC driving a beefed up John Deere tractor or running behind an offensive line of Deere tractors over the logo of the opponent we are playing and into the end zone with loud tractor revving sounds.
Raffles and student giveaways in the 4th quarter would be good. Bring back the toilet paper.

I volunteered, but even with Skype and WebEx the may only want local members. Start with this: It doesn't matter that UI and ISU are nearby. The life of the party is seldom the best looking person there. Create excitement, and it will feed on itself. Word gets around about fun atmospheres...

Charge tailgating fees. If Joe Cheapskate can't pony up the 5 bucks it takes to enhance the experience for everyone else, so be it. Let's lure in the spenders.

Sell beer. For those that just can't stand to be at an event where {gasp} alcohol is being served because little Snirdley might find out that there are cultural values out there besides his own, we'll have to live with that. And charge BIG bucks for the privilege!

There are quite a few things that can be done with resources at hand. (I've suggested these before) Have the band, cheerleaders, and TC work the crowd in the tailgating areas before the game. This might also be a good chance to sell those raffle tickets.

I haven't been up for a couple of years, but do they do anything with the plaza area behind the panther statue (and why does every statue have to have its rear end elevated??) and the hall of fame area? That would be a great area for disc jockeys, pep rallies, and the team to put in an appearance before the game. (that is done at ASU at the basketball arena, and the crowd eats it up)

Bring back the island cheiftan ceremony with TC, it was great and stoked the crowd. Is there something about the dome that doesn't allow for fog and pyrotechnics for the team entrance?

Why do bars in old warehouses pack and turn people away? Because of the atmosphere that is created with lights, noise, and excitement.

And how about a localized TC version of this....

Intelligent search from Bing makes it easier to quickly find what you’re looking for and rewards you.

          Sheik,

So what was so awesome about the entrance in the past? What would you like to see brought back? Or added to it?

It was more of a production and the script / timing was so much better. It was more of a build up to the opening of the door. They used to do this thing back in the 90's where TC was carried in on a platform and they had a big gong waiting at the 50 yard line. They'd let him off the platform and he'd smack the gong. That was pretty cool. The video as good last year but how many games did they either not play it or not play the whole thing? PR could barely say "Here come the Panthers" fast enough before the door was opening and the team was running out.

I used to tell people they HAD to see our pregame. The last couple (maybe 3) years I almost hope new people miss it because it seems so amateur. That sounds harsh, but I just know how good other schools do it and how good ours could be.

A couple more things. Bring back the camera as they guys are leaving the locker room and waiting for the door to open. That was very cool and gets people jacked up. Oh, and I think our band needs to be wrapped up playing much earlier...about 10 minutes sooner than they wrap up currently. They finish with the alma mater (huge buzz kill) and then go right over to the door and wait for the team. The crowd is excited, then has a sleep song played, then in the next 60 seconds is supposed to get excited again. Bad order and bad timing. Play the alma mater much earlier, wrap things up and go wait by the door, but for the next 5 minutes or so crank up some music over the speakers to get the crowd going. Then show the team exiting the locker room on the video. Gets the crowd into it and cues PR. Let PR do his awesome thing and the crowd goes nuts. Then play the highlight video while the team is out doing their last minute stretching and running. A steady crescendo to the kickoff.

Sheik is absolutely right. The problem with the intro is the timing is never right and the intro music is always screwed up. It isn't just a technical sound system problem, either.

Agree. The timing is so incredibly frustrating. I've been saying it for a few years that the band and their announcements go too long. Cut the pre-game cheer and the alma mater and that fixes the issue. PR's intro is much more effective when it doesn't have to be rushed and when the music is CRANKED beforehand. The camera in the garage door and outside the locker room is such an easy but effective touch and nothing gets the crowd pumped like seeing the team make their way to the entrance. I know the staffing turnover on game days is incredible, but more of an effort needs to be made in making sure the people running these things understands the importance of it and KNOWS how to make it work. People used to make sure to come inside and be in their seats before the team entrance and now it's something that no one cares to miss. It may sound silly, but there's no reason the staff and administration shouldn't practice the intro. I know very well that PR would be more than happy to head up there and practice timing with everyone... even though he's been doing it for 40 years. Yes... 40 years.

There is nothing more frustrating and crowd killing that the band announcer going on and on about Marching Band CDs while Hells Bells should be blaring. Its amateur hour, at best...

Hold your tongue - the sale of Marching Band CDs built the Dome, right?

Yup. I support our band and know they need fundraising support, as well. But there's a better time in the game to make that announcement.

Agree. Watch other schools do it. The band is wrapped up with about 15 minutes left on the pre-game clock and then it is pump it up time. Loud music, theatrics, pyro whatever it takes. The band is an icon and a great thing in college football so this isn't a slam on them at all. I hope no one takes it that way. They just need to yield to the "show" a little sooner. I know some people love watching the band perform and wouldn't miss it as part of their pre-game activities. But it won't bother them a bit I don't think if they start their part of the show 15 minutes earlier and end a little earlier so that things can get crazy.

how about after the band finishes their halftime performance?
there usually isn't a time crunch then.

Agreed Jay, that's perfect. Appropriate and it reaches the audience that might actually buy a Marching Band CD.
