    Now THAT is a winner.
"...the Northern Iowa men's basketball team reached the ultimate highs before hitting a devastating low. Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

It can't be as good as the National Anthem prior to every Blackhawks game. Best in sports, by far. Suggestion: pay Wayne Messmer to make a guest Anthem appearance.

Get rid of the alma mater BEFORE the game. Do it after the game if you have to do it at all.

Whoever ends up in charge of the gameday experience has to have expertise in the area and really care about it. The job can't just be a job.

I know you guys probably don't care but at NDSU they have lots of activities at tailgating.

Alumni has a tent with food and band, a local business brings in games and the big air castles for kids, Cloverdale meats has their big bbq truck there and the NDSU Bookstore has a merchandise trailer etc

Just as a talking point for you guys, we have reserved spots, I as a season ticket holder for 10 yrs pay $120 dollars a game for 6 car sized spots. I don't mind because I know if I'm going to be a little late I have spots no matter what

Getting the tailgate scene and total game day thing going really bumped us up so you guys on the committee push hard it's worth it

OK beat me up now.....I just came by to look for some Draft talk stumbled in here

This ^^ is the thing I think we are currently missing at UNI. I would like to see us move toward designated and reserved tailgating areas separate from the parking areas. To mix them together and only allow tailgating in the 4 feet directly in front of / behind your vehicle is not a good way to promote a good tailgating atmosphere, IMO. Let people buy their designated tailgating spot, which includes enough space to park a car and still have the ample room to put up a tent and tables to tailgate.
The Hy-Vee Fan Zone (or whatever it is officially called) in the grassy area north of the West Dome parking lot is a great addition. They have the big tent(s), bouncy houses for the kids and I believe they even ran cable tv out there so people can watch other games if they want to.

I think having reserved spots is probably a Phase 2 matter. Right now, I don't see how having reserved spots would do much to enhance game day. It may take a few years of ratching up the gameday experience before that is needed.

So, TJ, what was tailgating like before you went to the reserved spaces? Did it really make the difference in terms of dialing up the gameday experience? Or was it more of preserving something for the real die-hards once the gameday experience had already been dialed up?

Agreed. Very very cool. And yes, they do provide TV's and cable.

Well I know more people came tailgating, for instance before they opened the new reserved lot you literally had to sit in line for tailgating to open for hours in order to get in. The people next to me last year had enough priority points to get a spot, and they hadn't been tailgating until they were guaranteed a spot.

Reserved spots is more of a convenience thing but I do think it helps the regulars get better set ups which brings in more casual fans to check it out

Just curious if it was just a student or something planned, anyone remember when they did the Alma mater and towards the end when it was kinda going quiet a student would always yell 'Lets go Panthers "

My only other semi-idea that I would feel qualifies as making the cut is bring back the souvenir cups. Even for just a game, let people spend 500 bucks on a cup, take it home, then to their office/work and show it off. I have one from 2007 (I think) and it's great, but I want more!

I would not spend 500 bucks for any kind of cup (well, maybe if it was solid gold or something, in which case I could resell it for more than $500)

Yeah I meant it as a joke, I just meant that they could charge 10 bucks for one and I'd still buy it. They can have the other paper cups still too, but at least have an option for a souvenir.
