Ummm... we thought the same thing only to find out it appears to be a piece of metal about the size of a large notecard on the wires holding the net. It took us 2 games to figure out. If you look at the wire while walking across the South end, you will see them - 1 on each side. So, the black spot is different, depending on where you sit in the dome.

Heck of an optical illusion if that is the issue. It was bugging me all game.

I bet that is it. Have thought the same thing a couple times this year until I realize it's the net.

        • I hope the fan committee can maybe start some dialogue about ticket prices, namely basketball.

IMO, we are really shooting ourselves in our own feet with regards to attendance with how much we are charging and when we are doing it.

If we want to maximize attendance it seems painfully obvious we need cheap ticket specials for the majority of the preseason and during student breaks, and then full price or marked up tickets for the conference season.

Absolutely. I can't justify spending $80 to bring my family of four to a game, when travel and lunch and/or dinner is figured in as well - just to watch them play some nobody and win by 20 pts.

Totally agree with the point you're trying to make, that maybe some lower ticket prices at the beginning of the non-con schedule would put more butts in seats early in the year.

But think about it this way: there's a break-even point where lower single game ticket prices make season ticket prices look really expensive, incentivizing people to pass on buying the season packages.

What's more valuable to the athletic department, the steady income of annual increases in season ticket package sales? Or maximum attendance for Morgan St & North Florida, 3 and 4 games into the year?

If we want to maximize attendance the optimal price point would be $0. But with UNI's funding situation, we don't have the luxury of making maximum attendance the #1 priority.

Wild guess on my part, but I'd say even if there was no cost to attend today's game, it still would not have had a capacity crowd. No way to know.

It's a game of short term goals vs long terms goals. Today's early non-con attendance is a short term goal vs the long term goal of financial stability for the entire department.

We really should have did a basketball football combo deal, so simple to do and I feel it would have been effective

I'm guessing the mandatory donation level added to season tickets this year may have pushed the prices to be elevated for games they probably shouldn't have been. They are already going to be selling $5 tickets while the students are on break. I'm sure they look at it as that they can't just discount every game. Ideally, the tickets for these first 3 games would have been $15 for chair backs and $10 for bleachers. The games against Richmond, George Mason, and most MVC games $20 chair backs, $15 bleachers. Wichita should be $30, and a couple other MVC games in the $24/tix range for chair backs.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.
