Re: Drake--home opener
I noticed that over on Drake Nation (that's cute), someone posted that Drake leads the all-time series 25-20-1. Anyone care to dig up the historical series scores? I'd like to see how many of those wins have come for the Bulldogs since UNI came up into the Gateway/MVFC ranks and out of Division II.

According to one of the Drake Nation moderators, this site and DN were started by the same person. I guess he liked the "Nation" thing. Yep...the Drake message board is the creation of a UNI fan. The Drakies were too busy doing important, smart stuff. Or getting drunk.Originally posted by panther-state View PostI noticed that over on Drake Nation (that's cute)...
As for the historical record of Drake-UNI, a lot of those games were played in the 1960s-early 1970s, when both teams were in the College Division (precursor of D-II). Since the NCAA started formal divisions, Drake has been at a higher classification than UNI for about 10 years. Note: playing football at a different level than your other sports was permissible until 1993.Last edited by Lurking Dog; 09-05-2013, 10:43 AM.

Re: Drake--home opener
We last lost to Drake in 1972 under Stan Sheriff. Since then we have played them 4 times the last being in 2007 under Farley and we won all 4. Our first game vs Drake was in 1900 and we lost 50-0-----and NO, I was not there!Originally posted by panther-state View PostI noticed that over on Drake Nation (that's cute), someone posted that Drake leads the all-time series 25-20-1. Actually, Drake last won in '85, during Drake's first period in I-AA. D also beat the Panthers in '82 (I-AA) and '81 (I-A).Originally posted by Purple Reign View PostWe last lost to Drake in 1972 under Stan Sheriff.

Re: Drake--home opener
I'd have to imagine that if he got into athletic administration then he probably enjoyed supporting athletics throughout his life, including UNI during his academic career at the school. In that case he probably didn't look favorably upon having to pick sides against his alma mater (assuming of course that he wasn't a Purple Hawk fan).Originally posted by Lurking Dog View PostDuring Lynn King's decade as Drake's AD, he refused to schedule UNI in football. Of course, UNI is his alma mater. I don't know the rest of the story.
That's the best argument I can come up with at least.

We bought a couple weeks ago, before the ISU win, and there were decent seats still left. Had no problem getting 7 together. It is parent weekend so that always helps in addition to the win last weekend.
We told our nearly 3 year old daughter last week about the game and she asks about the game nearly every day. Can't wait to get back up to Cedar Falls....she is growing out of all her UNI shirts.

Re: Drake--home opener
There weren't any college divisions prior to 1937. In 1937, both UNI and Drake were in the Small College division, but Drake moved up to the Major College Division in 1939. From 1939 through 1958 when Drake was in the larger division, UNI's record against them was 6-8-1.Originally posted by panther-state View PostI noticed that over on Drake Nation (that's cute), someone posted that Drake leads the all-time series 25-20-1. From 1959 - 1972, Drake was in the Small College division (as was UNI). UNI was 6-8 vs Drake during that time period.
UNI moved to D-II in 1973 and remained there until their move to D-IAA in 1981. Drake moved to Division I for 1973-77 and to Division I-A from 1977 to 1980. During that time period, UNI was 3-0 against Drake.
Drake continued their schizophrenic ways moving to I-AA in 1981, D-III in 1987 and back to D-IAA (non-scholarship) in 1993. Since 1981, UNI is 2-2 against Drake
From http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com if you want to look it up. Pretty interesting site.
UNI's score is on the left of the city the game was played in. Sorry. Don't have enough time to format it very well.

Re: Drake--home opener
Actually he's an ISU fan. He started PN first, but I think he has started a board at every MVC school, or at least any that did not already have an active board. I don't visit any of them, so I have no idea how they are doing traffic wise.Originally posted by Lurking Dog View PostAccording to one of the Drake Nation moderators, this site and DN were started by the same person. Re: Drake--home opener
With all due respect to the fan who compiled your source material, Drake was I-A in 1981--my sophomore year at Drake. Along with the Southland and 7/8 of the Ivy League, Drake was forced to I-AA the following year, having failed to meet the NCAA's four-year attendance requirement for I-A.Originally posted by PantherFan View PostDrake continued their schizophrenic ways moving to I-AA in 1981,...
The '81 Dogs were 10-1, but didn't get an invitation from any of the 16 bowls. Times have certainly changed.
