What does David Johnson have to do with anything? And how would he come out "ahead" after giving money away.
Bids were submitted a month ago (or more), and I'm fairly sure Monmouth didn't bid anyway.

Pretty sure he meant David Harris. Althought DJ has an easier time coming up with 20K than UNI.

Uh, David Harris. Sorry about that.

So, any team that thinks it might be eligible and interested in hosting an FCS playoff game has to bid a month before the brackets are announced? So, UNI has already bid for the second and third rounds also, even though we know we won't be hosting?

It's possible we could host a third round game if we win in the second. Would require two upsets I guess. Heck we could host a semi-final if JMU stumbles. Unlikely we host beyond first round, but I'm pretty sure it's happened before that we were on the road and then came home for the next round.

I think this has been covered before but if you are seeded and put in the minimum bid to host and are the higher seed of the two opponents then you will have a home game. We win Saturday and again vs SDSU and Central Arkansas loses then I believe it would come down to a bid.

Yes, although I would guess that most schools only bid the minimums for anything beyond the first round.
outside of the first round, hosting goes to the higher seed (as long as they put in at least the minimum bid for that round). The only time that wouldn't be the case is if two unseeded teams both win their second round games and meet in the quarterfinals, and that is unlikely.

                  I think just the opposite.

You'd submit a strong bid for later round games so that if there is an upset of a seeded team (or two)...you would have the chance to host a quarter or semi final game.

You'd have the chance to put your team in a great position to advance to Frisco by hosting an unseeded team in a qtr or semi round game.

If that scenario never unfolds the bids cost you nothing.

If you're gonna submit a minimum bid, why submit one at all.

Winning is more fun than losing.

If you end up a seeded team, and didn't submit a bid, then I believe you'd have to go on the road to the unseeded (or lower seeded) team's venue, if they had submitted a bid.
Also, if you end up a seeded team, and submitted a high bid, you have to pay that amount.

Of course, there wasn't much of a chance of UNI getting a seed, especially with where we sat a month ago.

                    • of course, even if you bid the minimum, if 75% of the gate receipt (or whatever percentage it is that the NCAA takes) ends up being higher than the bid amount, the NCAA gets that higher amount. So UNI would probably bid based on a conservative estimate of their gate receipt (attendance would likely be at least 7500, especially once the team advanced beyond Thanksgiving weekend, which is what this discussion is about).

                      • UNI did come in second in the by far toughest conference, so getting a seed should not have been out of the question. We were punished for playing he #1 SOS in FCS. The MVFC really should have had 3 seeded teams, but the committee couldn't do that, so they set it up so the two teams that tied for second in the best conference play each other in the second round so less MVFC teams would advance. The team that won the first meeting on the road, and the tiebreaker, goes on the road again, while the 4 and 5 teams from the MVFC get an easier path. There are always games played in the selection process. Oh well, hopefully there are at least 3 MV teams in the final 8 and 2 in the final 4.

The simple truth is it is harder to win the MVFC championship now than it is to win the national championship. If you don't believe that ask NDSU who in the last 6 years won 2 outright conference championships and 5 national ones.

I totally agree with this. The Valley takes so much out of you that there isn't a ton in the tank by the time we get here.

I'd absolutely love if the Valley could comprise the entire semi-finals, it would take a couple upsets but its not impossible. The rest of the country would just have a conniption fit.

That would be awesome, but it would require USD to win a game in Louisiana, then in Texas, and then most likely in Alabama.....all against quality teams. That is a lot of traveling for a battered team.

Not to mention it would require Western to travel to Utah twice in a row and then most likely to to the east coast and win three times.

It would certainly be awesome though. I certainly like NDSU's chances and either us or SDSU certainly could. I suppose it isn't impossible.

Good perspective. And it is the tough season that make the playoff road even tougher if you aren't the winner of the conference.

winner of the conference or not, in order to win the championship, you're going to have to beat at least one other MVFC team in the playoffs (if not more).
