This used to be the game of the season long ago. Get in win and get out.

Should be a relatively easy win #6 which puts us in a really good place going into the final two games. Go Panthers!

The leathernecks are giving up an average of 6.7 YPC. Which is absolutely abysmal. Other than injuries to RBs, why do anything other than running plays? Shorten the game ...

      Man that program has cratered.

Ex Panther Matt Morrissey has been the starting QB at WIU this season.

Doesn't have a lot to work with.
Winning is more fun than losing.

Hopefully the weather cooperates for a nice day to tailgate because the game just flat isn't going to be competitive.

Good chance to get a lot of 1s out early for a quasi-bye week.

We absolutely have that luxury this week. I don't think you can quantify how bad Western is. They're probably the worst scholarship program in the country and I think that's sad.

Per Massey WIU is 111th in the FCS. There are 128 FCS teams. Below them is

Northwestern Louisiana - who just cancelled their season as a player was killed and rumors of the coach ignoring calls from his parents to save him are coming out
                Robert Morris
                Central Conneticut State
                Texas Southern
                The Citadel
                Sacred Heart
                Bethune-Cookman
                Marist
                Morehead State
                San Diego
                Mississippi Valley State
                Delaware State
                Arkansas Pine Bluff
                Stetson
                Dayton
                Presbyterian
                Valparaiso

                So of the 17
                7 of them are non-scholarship
5 are insanely underfunded HBCU in the SWAC/MEAC
1 - Northwestern State - is actually a truly funded FCS program in the Southland - potentially the worst true FCS conference there is.
1 - The Citadel - is a tiny tiny tiny (think smaller than Wartburg...would be average ARC enrollment) public military school.
The rest are NEC/were NEC until this year and are now floating in this mashup OVC/Big South set up and were partial funded scholarships

WIU possibly takes The Citadel and or Northwestern State but that's no lock.

                WIU's scores this year are
                21-58
                40-43 (D2 move up Lindenwood)
                17-37
                Conference games
                18-34
                10-49
                7-48
                7-52
                0-63

It's not hyperbolic to say WIU is the worst "fully funded" scholarship team in the country.

This was a post by a WIU fan on AGS this morning

Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum...WIU's game against SIU last weekend has cemented itself in our history book, tying for the 4th worst loss in our program's history (2nd worst since we went DI). For reference:
                  1. 72 points to Lombard in 1971
                  2. 69 points at Mizzou in 2011
                  3. 66 points against Western Kentucky in 1968
                  4t. 63 points at Quincy in 1920
4t. 63 points against SIU last Saturday

We are in the midst of the longest losing streak in school history (21 games) and currently hold the longest losing streak in DI (not quite the longest in the NCAA, there are a couple of D2s and a D3 with longer streaks). There's a chance we could break the streak in 11/11 against (also currently 0-8) Indiana State, although they took Top 25-ranked North Dakota to OT last Saturday, so I think the odds are not in our favor.

We are still currently dead last in the FCS in rushing offense (51.4 ypg) and sacks allowed (4.75/game), as well as scoring defense (48 points per game allowed), and sacks (0.62 per game).

It's to the point now where it's legitimately funny how bad we are. It feels like the Keystone Cops have taken the field masquerading as a mediocre D2 football team wearing what I would consider to be the ugliest uniforms I've ever seen on Hanson Field:

So...sure we can sit here as UNI fans and go "We can't take anything for granted" but...

I actually don't hate that look for them. I've never particularly cared for their purple and metallic gold scheme. Boy what I wouldn't give to keep this series alive as a non-con going forward, even as a buy game (I know we don't do those)...
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

It's amazing that as broke as they are as an AD, as a university, have zero donors (I went and looked a while back and last I saw they had a scholarship club donation dotal that was about 20k total) and has multiple helmets, multiple sticker looks for the helmets, multiple uniforms, etc. I don't hate that look either but yellow tops are super hit/miss.

Also WIU is the easiest OOC schedule option for both teams to ever exist. UNI/WIU should 100% do a permanent H/H rivalry game in the OOC. Just as you see with EIU/ISUR or SEMO/SIU. You literally can't get a closer/cheaper trip for an OOC game. It's a name both fan bases know and will draw better than inserting random NEC/PFL/SLC school for both schools, even if only marginally. Schedule it as a 4 or 6 pm kick and you don't necessarily need a hotel the night before for either team. You can bus day of without it being asscrack of dawn to get there. It means you can drop the dumbass Big Sky H/H series and spend 250k to go to Idaho/California. You have your FBS buy, you have WIU H/H which is an easy trip for any UNI fans (hell, put together a charter as an AD to get fans to go), and then you can do a buy game yearly because you aren't spending all of your buy game money to get to ****ing Idaho, Washington, Utah, or California.

It makes all the sense in the universe, which is exactly why it won't happen and David will refuse to do it.

We don't do logic here. Imma need you to stop.

If we were guaranteed 2-1 going into league play every year, it would be too easy to consistently make the playoffs and get a seed every once in a while.

Looking at how the national playoff picture is shaping up, this could be a year a couple leagues get multiple bids that should not, and a few 7-4 teams from the MVC/BigSky/CAA/SoCon get left out. That Weber loss is turning into a bad loss (from the point of view of the playoff committee at least).

Lets just win our last three and not worry about it.

Weber State's loss to Northern Arizona ruined their season. I think 7-4 is still the magic number, but 8-3 would get rid of the substantial stress.

We're a mortal lock at 7-4 and a real shot at a seed and bye at 8-3.
