you know your season is bad when the opposing QB throws a pass directly to your defensive back and instead of an INT, he tips it to the receiver for a completion.
and then the muffed fair catch on the 1
and the long snapper bouncing the snap to the punter in the endzone.
I do wish the PA guys would have chosen a different time to announce Cook's breaking of the record. Was rather bad form to have the crowd cheering while a player is lying injured on the field.

That was exactly what yesterday needed to be. Stress free, no injuries and a score that's going to look good to people that don't pay attention.
Missouri State got absolutely jobbed yesterday so they'll either completely shut down or come out with their hair on fire. Get on a plane and lock down that playoff bid next week.#MACtion

but they officials have never been all that consistent on what they rule a "catch" and what they call incomplete.
Definitely a call that can be debated, but claiming that MSU got "absolutely jobbed" seems like exaggeration.

Even the running back knew he dropped it.

Here's the play for anyone that has no idea what's being talked about - the 2 point conversion to give ISU the win.
The pass was called incomplete, immediately, by both on-field officials. They felt it was so obviously incomplete that on top of signaling immediately both did the super relaxed "Yeah, this is obviously incomplete" motion rather than a more demonstrative call you see when it's iffy. The player reacts knowing he botched it and it was incomplete.
Then the booth decides "Hey, I know literally nothing about that is actually complete but I'm going to look at it and call it complete"

I've officiated HS ball for over 25 years, and can't remember once calling an invalid fair catch - and definitely wouldn't do so in that kind of a situation. It's definitely one of those things you would want to talk to the player about, unless it caused obvious deception.
I agree it was called how the rule is written, but hoo boy if we go down that route, the rule book says a lot of things that we don't call often.
IMO college officiating in all sports has been made worse by all of the extra replay and technology. They are too concerned about getting every call technically correct so they get a good grade report after the game. In the old days, and thankfully still in high school for the most part, you need to know and understand the rules - and then interpret them on the field with a healthy dose of common sense.
The hyper-focus on getting everything exactly right in college and the pros has hurt the officiating profession and makes it more difficult to find those willing to do the job at the lower levels.__________________
