    Re: Team Arrived Safely

Coss' blog states that Mac is recruiting today and will join his family Wednesday night in Portland.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

Not exactly sure how this means we're not recruiting him...

I mean, it appears to be a family trip of sorts, and I'm sure the McDermott's were invited/helped pay their share just like everyone else on the charter. Like Bob said on the video, there's about 120 people flying to Portland.

            Was this a chartered flight?

IIRC, the NCAA pays post-season travel expenses, so if the McDermott's were on the flight, I would imagine it was either a public flight or they paid their own way.

As has been said... Coach Mac didn't actually fly with the team. He is meeting them out there. Coach Mac's family flew with the team.

And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

Hopefully it was a clear day for the flight in. The approach and/or take off from Portland is one of the most spectacular views you'll ever see from a plane. You've got Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Adams, and Mt. Ranier on the North, and Mt. Hood and a whole slew of volcanoes to the South stretching back in to California.

That sounds amazing. The best flight I've ever had was flying to NYC. We flew over Chicago and Detroit. (interesting terminal, if you ask me. was stuck there for 4 hours on the way back.) We flew into LaGuardia and had our landing delayed due to runway traffic and had to fly north up the Hudson. So the pilot comes over the intercom and says: "If you look out the left windows, I'll dip the wings a bit and you will see the Statue of Liberty". We ended up flying the length of Manhattan and then obviously had to come back south. I had never been to NYC so needless to say, I was pretty awestruck.

I have made that flight a couple times. The last time it involved a commute out to Redmond, OR so we had to cross the mountain range. A get trip!

Next time you're there, take a drive down the Columbia River Gorge. Spectacular scenery. You can then cut north and drive to Mt. Adams - again, very scenic. One thing about that area, it's obviously mountainous and the woods are thick as hell. My initial reaction was, "no wonder they never found DB Cooper...his body and parachute could've been 10 feet away and I still wouldn't see it". Seriously, a pack of wolves, a dozen mountain lions, and a family of Bigfoot could've been stalking me, and there's no way I would've known.

Fine. If the roles were reversed and Coach Jake's family was flying with another team to a tournament game, with the coach joining them later, I'm sure there would be plenty around here b#tching about it.

I personally wouldn't have a problem with it. But I don't have a problem with alot of the stuff that people whine about around here.

Doug is most certainly on a list of prospects that the coaching staff is watching. I would assume that he only helped his chances of becoming a "serious" target after his tournament. Hopefully he continues to grow into a second threat alongside Barnes at Ames.

I see this as a great "free" recruiting opportunity for UNI with Doug
