    Re: La Tech

doesn't look like the BB game will help us much this yr in terms of RPI or voter perception. but it is a chance for us to face off with a quality, unfamiliar opponent. this, like any year, will help the team in preparations for post season play.

La Tech has a pretty pathetic looking schedule but W&M? They're sitting at 6th in the CAA right now! I'd rather see a George Mason or VCU squad than W&M! Somehow they still sit higher in the RPI than those two, even after three strait loses.

ODU is the only team I am interested in playing. Any other game is a waste for us...

Most are played Saturday. Creighton traditionally hosts a late night Friday game.

Yes, Bucknell was in my opinion the only year we benefited from Bracketbuster.
we benefit because we get to play the team on our regular schedule the next year. We benefited from having sienna on our schedule this year. they are a top 50 win we would not have had otherwise.

I believe as PTTB mentioned earlier that there are no return games for next year so that they can better split the home and road teams going forward. Its like hitting the reset button...

Correct, I believe we will have to return the game in the 2011-12 season.

One thing they'll need to reset is the home/away split of the MVC so that the MVC has more of a 50/50 split among its teams and avoids having seasons with most of its teams on the road like last season.

I wasn't the one who said they were resetting the matchups. Until I saw this today, I had never heard of the resetting. Are you sure that that wasn't referring to the MVC/MWC challenge?

                        Re: La Tech

Does anyone think they might want to get away from 2 home games one year and 2 away games the next and have the return game 2 years later from now on so it will make 1 home/1 away game each year. Plus it would give teams more time to fit games into their schedules.

They could be resetting the home/away teams but still doesn't make sense to delay the return game for this reason.

                          Re: La Tech

Teams, like UNI, need quality games. Bracket Busters has helped UNI in that. UNI has been at the top of BB lineups for most of the time since it's inception, and has gotten some great matchups...Bucknell, Nevada, Siena (all were ranked, or close to it). UIC has been the only aberration. When it started, La Tech (in the 1st year of the event) allowed UNI an opportunity to play a 'post season style game' which gained the young Panthers great experience (and a win). UW-GB the next season gave UNI a great win late (on the road) without David Gruber (?)...or was it when Grubes broke his wrist? That year, it helped propel them into the MVC tourney with great momentum. The Western Michigan win the following year was another great win/matchup on national television in the Dome.

I just think this has been a great deal for UNI in most seasons. It could use some tweaks (like allowing some flipping of the top teams to allow top home teams an opportunity to match up, instead of forcing them to play road teams that may not help their profile as much).

La Tech lost at home to New Mexico State yesterday. RPI dropped to 76. They have two more games they could lose, the game at New Mexico State and a game at Utah State, before a Bracketbuster game.

I think the brackbuster matchups are announced tomorrow though.

You're right. It's at 5:30. It's just that if UNI were to still draw them, there is a pretty good chance that what we would hope for as far as drawing a team RPI-wise, Top 50 or close to it, won't happen.

As I said in another post, Utah State would be the better draw from the WAC but they are also a B-buster home team.

Utah State is at 53, and I think there's a pretty good chance they would win the rest of their games before a Bracketbuster game. We're seeing the Bracketbuster alignment as far as who is playing at home and who is on the road not work well for UNI at this point.
