So maybe Johnson never used the exact word "wished" with regards to Tuttle waiting, or Uthoff, or whoever, but he obviously feels his players can do better than UNI and encourages them to wait for better offers. He claims it was coaches who wished it.

He certainly did not send Seth to UNI as 9yr stated. Seth made that decision on his own, likely against Johnson's advice.

i dont know where you are getting this. Johnson said that COACHES wished he would have waited. he wanted to commit in march- johnson told him to be sure about it, tuttle didnt commit until summer. johnson is an iowa grad who posts on the iowa board and he is consistently praising UNI and our staff.

As a guy who is one of those who is usually sick of the Hawkeyes, I don't really have much of a problem with anything he said. There was a slight implication that UNI was not a great school, but I'm willing to give him the benifit of the doubt that it was unintentional.

However, if the situation were turned and it was someone seeming to put down Iowa in favor of schools like Wisconsin, Illinois, etc., Hawk fans would be all over this and up in arms.

Johnson seems (like many AAU coaches) to be looking out for number one here, IMO. The more players he can send to "big time" schools, the better his career will be. It's possible he has erroneously come to the conclusion that UNI is small potatoes. I get annoyed when people make the assumption that recruits are only big time when they go to BCS schools, and that's what I'm going to get out of his quotes.

That being said, it won't be long before UNI is seen as a destination school for EVERYONE, skeevy AAU coaches included.*

As a "football first" fan, I can say that I don't know much about him except for those couple quotes in the article. AND, I refuse to look at anything black&gold. I'm sure I'm not the only one - so please do post his premium hawkeye stuff here (as long at its UNI related).*

Don't know him either, but I would agree with you based on what I have read. What goes on outside the papers could cause a person to view things differently, but I haven't seen or heard anything to make me change my opinion. I think expecting him to push his players to UNI or be labled a Panther hater is unfair.

Agreed. Expecting him to push players towards UNI isn't realistic. Wisconsin is a bigger time program than we are, given their history, players in the NBA, etc. That's no slight at UNI, that's just reality. That doesn't mean every guy offered by Wisconsin should go there. Tuttle probably chose UNI for his own reasons, and I'm guessing this coach is mostly OK with that.

That said, I've always heard AAU basketball is a cesspool. No idea if that applies to the Barnstormers, but who knows?

well, i tried to find those quotes but the iowa rivals site doesnt save every thread like this board. with all the media day and wegher threads, the oldest thread available is august 6. i would say the discussions were 2-3 weeks ago.
