I'd imagine they'll find a sponsor for the event.

I think ubuntu makes a great point. Save the money, give it directly to UNI and help pack the McLeod! I think its a much better plan than this stupid "tournament"

so weak. anyone with a sack would want to keep iowa and isu from dominating the venue, not cry over the new setup.

I could really give a rat's when it means jack squat for UNI. We are spending an additional $10K plus losing some ticket revenue AND we still lose a game against a Big 10/12 rival each season. Anyone with a brain cell would want what is best for UNI and you will have a hard time convincing people that this is whats best.

I hope people support UNI one way or another, if this "tournament" is how they choose to do it, fine. If they realize they can make a more significant impact by driving up to CF instead then even better.

I do think it'd be great to dominate the venue. I also know that my budget/schedule is only going to allow me to go to 4-5 MBB games. Cedar Falls is a lot closer for me (along with less expensive and most likely better seats) so I will go to those 4-5 games in Cedar Falls.

Now if I lived in Des Moines would probably be a different story.
"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

Agreed. I'd much rather go to McLeod and watch a couple of games instead.

isnt Dannen on the record saying that the new event is more lucrative for UNI?

thats too bad. this could be an opportunity to really showcase the UNI fanbase in des moines, but it seems the everyone would rather play Woe-is-me State at home because "its closer".

Where have you seen that? Hard for me to imagine that 1/4 the revenue from this event would equal what we get from a home game with Iowa or ISU. Not saying it isn't possible but it would surprise me.

i will have to dig. this would change my view on the event SLIGHTLY if i was under the wrong impression these past months.

"The inaugural event is scheduled for four years and each school’s fan base receives one-quarter of the 16,110-seat arena. The schools will have between 2,700 and 3,500 tickets to sell and the profits are split four ways.

It’s a more lucrative event for UNI and Drake than hosting Iowa and Iowa State every-other year. But cash-strapped Northern Iowa is giving up more than just money, Dannen said. It’s giving up tradition and playing major-conference, large-school rivals on its home floor.

“This has never been our first choice,” Dannen said. “The fact of the matter is we have not been, never have been in a position to control the scheduling. My job for UNI is make sure we have the best possible opportunity. If we’re not going to have a home-and-home series, the best possible outcome for us is this event.

“Now that the event is put together, I think it will be a great event. But it still is somewhat bittersweet and the price to pay for this event — in UNI’s eyes — is pretty steep.”"

Stop being a douche. How many times do you travel to CF for games? Would you be willing to drive to Cedar Rapids and pay $60 per ticket for this event?

This is an expensive "event" for something that otherwise would have just simply been a home game in the past. If people choose not to travel to DM for this, and opt to go to more home games instead, there is nothing wrong with that. Stop acting like this event, once again, is some generous gift that was given to UNI.

UNI should be represented fine in this event anyway with all the UNI alums in the area (though, as evidenced by the lack of PSC support for DM, who knows). I think its great though for the DM area UNI fans to have a 2nd game in DM that they can go to. Hopefully they can get out and support UNI for this event.
