Iowa released their much anticipated non-conf schedule today. And man, let me tell ya, its a behemoth:

Nov. 9 vs. Texas-Pan American
Nov. 12 vs. Central Michigan
Nov. 15 vs. Howard
Nov. 17 vs. Gardner-Webb
Nov. 20 vs. Western Kentucky (Cancun, Mexico)
Nov. 21 vs. DePaul/Wichita State (Cancun, Mexico)
Nov. 27 at Virginia Tech
Dec. 1 vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Dec. 4 vs. South Dakota
Dec. 7 vs. Iowa State (Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series)
Dec. 15 vs. UNI (Des Moines, Iowa)
Dec. 19 vs. South Carolina State
Dec. 22 vs. Coppin State


Thankfully for them, they were able to end the series with UNI and Drake, and open up their coveted "scheduling flexibility" as 9YR put it, so they can compile amazingly challenging schedules like that every year.

I mean, if refusing to play games at UNI and Drake anymore allows you to pick up marquee contests like Gardner Webb and Coppin St, you have to do it right???

Intelligent fans knew this would be the case when this all went down. The U of I are a bunch of pussies.

everyone knew that the schedule would be and will continue to be light until iowa gets better. they need to make the tourney and keep growing attendance right now.

it doesnt affect UNI one bit, other than the fact the we get to play them on a neutral floor instead of at carver which is a positive this year.

the drake contract had expired. they wouldnt come to iowa for a single game. drake contract with ISU was also done. a big 4 decision had to be made this year

Or they could have just started new contracts and continued the home n homes

UNI and Iowa not playing each year, hurts both schools.

I'd be much happier with the big 4 arrangement if Iowa, ISU, and UNI played each other every year.

but i am not going to start ripping iowa for their scheduling strategy when 1)they are not good and 2) we have no idea what their future schedules look like (which is the only relevant part of this argument considering that we benefited greatly from the change this coming year)

if iowa continues to schedule these god awful teams without adding some serious other competition then they should rightfully be questioned about dropping the home and homes...just not until next year.

Explain to me then how loosing a game against a quality school every year at home doesn't hurt UNI (I do understand that we are loosing ISU this year and Iowa next).

McCafferey has been vocal about this from the begining. I sat there a few feet away from him when they "need to schedule tougher" the first time. I also remember hearing that again when UNI was in the Top 5 of RPI and SOS.

that being said, that schedule is awful and iowa better be hoping for something like 11-2 and 10-8 in conference if they want to be on the bubble.

Gotta be better than that. 11-2 in the noncon would probably be one win over a top 150 team.

This is not a schedule for a team that is interested in the tourney. Absolutely must make hay in the Big 10 with that schedule. 11-7 minimum IMO especially since Iowa only plays the the good teams in the Big 10 once.
