If the Panther Pride program is something where students accrue points for attending UNI athletic and other events (student-based music/theater/dance/art performances, science events, etc.), then I think that's a pretty cool idea.

Yep, its a new thing with the UNI-STAT program. They have a card "punched" at every athletic event

fran was very complimentary of UNI on andy katz' podcast today. basically said that UNI has had excellent coaching and has closed the traditional gap between the programs and they will continue knocking each other off every year, therefore its a risk for isu and iowa to keep going to uni/drake every year when UNI is now at the level where they can schedule fine enough on their own without ISU and iowa. fran starts talking about the in-state rivalries around the 51 minute mark.

UNI has received an at large bid twice. both times, the best non-conference win on their tourney resume was versus an in-state opponent.

not to mention the outrage that has occurred over losing these games.

It's not too difficult to justify the comment.

In the past, that statement has been fair. As I heard it, he was talking about how at Iowa he has to prepare for UNI as if they are the biggest game on UNI's schedule. That has never been the case while he's been at Iowa, and isn't now. at least not this year.

I heard you 9yr in the Greg MCD era thats 100% true. Iowa basketball was good then

and UNI was the little guy fighting for approval. Since that UNI is the best or 2nd team

in the state year to year. With our team we got now I doubt things will change. BTW

Creighton games are much bigger game than IOWA!

i agree that any in-conference game is bigger when you have a chance to win the conference. like you said, that wasnt always the case.

think about the nearly-universal opinion on this board though. dont try to tell me that the games are not a huge deal and that iowa doesnt get UNI's best shot or close to best shot every year. any mid major win over a high major is important even if the two teams suck.

2004-5 I would agree. 2-OT loss at Cincinnati wasn't too shaby though. Disagree on 2005-6 season with a win at LSU.

Everyone gets UNI's "best shot". Implying that UNI plays better or harder against Iowa just because they are Iowa is off base, and so disrespectful to UNI. Its the same "super bowl" argument that Iowa fans use when they lose to ISU. It's a pathetic sore loser argument. Sure, the games between in-state rivals always carry a little more energy with them, but that comes from ALL sides, whether its Drake, ISU, or Iowa. These games are important for everyone involved, not just UNI or Drake.

Maybe UNI gets IOWA's best shot, did you ever think of that?? UNI has certainly been the superior program for the last 5-8 years or so. You don't think Iowa is going to go all out to beat the in-state rival UNI basketball program that has achieved what it has the last 10 years??
