  • 2015 vs 2010: Who would win?

With so many comparisons from this season to the 2010 Sweet 16 team, I thought it'd be fun to have a thread to discuss a fantasy matchup of the two squads and who we think would win if they were able to take the court together.
They are obviously the best two teams in Panther basketball history although it's debatable which is 1 and which is 2.

Tuttle vs Koch would be a fun matchup but would they even guard eachother with Egs on the floor? Wouldn't it be great to see Marvin fight for a rebound with O'Rear?

I like this year's team in the matchup due to their efficiency on offense and length at the guard positions. I think we are quicker and more versatile than 2010 but Jordan would be tough to stop with this year's roster.
    What do you guys think?

    2015.

More athletic and leaps and bounds better offensively. Eglseder couldn't be on the floor because he couldn't guard Tuttle, Buss, or Singleton. Marv has the upper body strength to be effective guarding Adam Koch.

But he (eggs) could guard Aldrich and the Morris Twins? All of whom are in the NBA...in think he could easily guard tuttle.

He didn't guard the Morris twins for a single solitary second other than a couple of times he helped. Aldrich is a back to the basket post and he matched up okay with him. They'd use Tuttle to pull him away from the basket and Tuttle would shoot layups going around him all day.

Not tearing down Jordan by any means, but he was extremely limited defensively.

If the 2010 team put Koch o'rear and Jordan all on the floor at the same time the 2015 version would be in a world of hurt.

Buss isn't guarding anybody and o'rear would be more than fine against Singleton.

I would also take kwadzo over Mitchell. Ali and bohannon is a wash at best.

Only person on the current team that would start is Tuttle. I do favor the 2015 bench.

funny thing is the strength of the 2010 team was depth but I think the 2015 team has better depth.
2010 had a lot of youth on the second team unit. Sonnen, AJ and J Koch were all freshman whereas Wyatt is the only guy from this years team (who is in the regular rotation) in the same mold and I think he is farther along than those three were at the same time.

The 2015 team would try to increase tempo and we all know what happened to most teams trying to do that vs the 2010 team

2010 was a bigger team and a little better defensively. 2015 is way better offensively and significantly more athletic. Both really deep.

Tuttle would be the best player on the floor. Kwadzo is easily the best PG on the floor. 2010 had the best shooter in Ali, but 2015 has a greater number of good shooters.

It would be an awesome series. Its really tight. If I had to give the slightest edge, it might be toward 2015 because they are so much better offensively.

1990 team with Reese, Muilenberg, Turner, McCullough, Phyfe, Newby, Hill, Cox, Johnson, Pace would be an interesting comparison as well.

Good point, although that team wasn't as defensive oriented as the later two, and doesn't have anywhere near the depth. Dale Turner doesn't get mentioned much these days, but IMO he's easily the second best PG in school history (behind Kwazdo). He could play on any Panther team, any time.

Just a guess, but the length and athleticism of this years' squad would cause problems for the '90 and '10 teams. Someone mentioned Morgan over Moran, and that's a prime example. I liked Moran a lot, but Morgan is growing into a true defensive pest, has 5 inches on Moran, is quicker, and at the very least an equal shooter.

Opinions may change when the season is over. We cannot see the entire body of work of the 2015 team. 2010 team was battled tested and delivered the goods.

I heard on the radio yesterday from one expert that WSU has not beat a team all year that he feels will be in the tournament.

Re: 2015 vs 2010: Who would win?

Cedrick McCullough at 6'5" was the defensive stopper on the 1990 team. He held 1st round draft pick Anthony Peeler to 3 points in the NCAA Tourney. Wasn't as much of an outside shot as Morgan, but I'd put him up against J-Mo and be happy with either.

Troy Muilenberg was a tough as nails undersized forward/big guard. Deadly from outside, scrapper for rebounds and basically automatic from the line. I'd take him over Bohannon, Ali is an interesting question depending on who we are playing (pressing team-go with Ali).

Jason Reese there is no question about. As much as we love O'Rear and Marvin, Reese would rampage with either of them and was (obviously) a much better scorer. Take him over Big E inside as well.

There's 3 off that 90 team right there, not to mention Dale Turner-who holds higher career avgs in points, rebounds and steals than Kwadzo and dished out 180 more assists in his career in 16 fewer games. Again, I would take either but Turner makes a good argument.

Tuttle is the only clear choice of this year's 5, and that is taking him over Adam Koch at the 4. Tough call, but Tuttle is just more all-around. Don't mind having Adam come in and spell him though.
