Ryan Betley. Always sad to see stuff like this.Originally posted by hoopfan View Post
Penn may have lost one of their leading scorers for the year tonight with injury.
Steve Donahue on Ryan Betley's injury: "It's not good... He wanted to have a great year and it's just probably not going to happen. The only silver lining is it's the first game of the year, he doesn't lose another year of eligibility... he ruins his knee for the year.

That's a bummer, first game of the season. They're thinking it's a ruptured patella tendon. I'm sure it doesn't make him feel a lot better, but at least he'll be able to use a red shirt and not lose a year of eligibility.Originally posted by UNIAlum2010 View Post

ESPN+ is separate - it's ESPN Insider with video added to it
The difference between the 2
ESPN+ is a stand alone subscription. You pay for it and it doesn't matter if you have cable, satellite, or nothing. You get access to ESPN+.
ESPN is cable package based. You need to have a ISP provider offer it as part of their cable package to get access to those games.
That's a good question.

This was mentioned in the Bemidji game thread but I want to try to keep this as the non game time discussion thread so things don't get lost
The way Biggie attacks the boards from the top of the key is great. He's going to have more than a few highlight put back dunks this year.
This team attacks the boards really really well. Brown, Biggie, and the way Trae attack the glass is unlike anything we've seen. Add Pickford into that and Phyfe down low?
McDonnell won't be able to give us much im games where he has to be physical, kid just can't get weight to stay on him, but i was impressed with his ability to find rebounding lanes.
Once this offense gets used to the 4 out, if not 5 out, wheel style offense and can gel to learn cutting lanes and read them to make the passes it's going to be real fun.
Also the fast style of play is helped by having a ball handler that can look up the court and move at the same time. No longer do we have a kid brining the ball up the court that has to keep his eyes less than 7 feet in front of him. Even guys like Brown and Trae have their eyes up court as soon as they get the ball.
I still find myself wishing we'd recognize we're cold and not launch a 3 as soon as we get an open look, but that's just having to force myself to remember we don't have guys like Juwan launching them anymore.

Pleasant surprise for me was Brown - very smooth and confident, seems to have spent his weight room time well. Many here thought he had the potential, I had been skeptical. No doubt will have the normal ups and downs, but he could have an amazing season. Wentzein also, there have been more than a couple of past UNI teams he'd have played serious minutes for.

seems like a lot of our games are on espn+. I might get it. I don't have cable. Does anyone else use it? is it worth it?Originally posted by Gboom23 View PostThis may be a dumb question, but is it possible to sign up for ESPN+ without a cable/satellite TV provider? Or do you have to select a provider like with ESPN3?

I signed up for basketball season. So many games and only $5/month, it's a no brainer for me. I don't have cable either, just steam everything. Pro sports are easy to stream free, college can be a little more difficult, especially mid majors.Originally posted by williebat View Post

We use it because I refuse to go back to the dark days of not being able to watch the team play when on the road. It's cheap, works on my laptop and my ipad... doesn't always work on my phone for some reason.Originally posted by williebat View Post

One thing that is a little confusing that people need to know, ESPN+ is accessed through the ESPN app and not the Watch ESPN app...UNI FIGHT

Yea, this took me a while to figure out last night. It's weird that ESPN3 and ESPN+ are on the same app on my Amazon Fire TV, but different apps on my phone.Originally posted by 06panther10 View PostOne thing that is a little confusing that people need to know, ESPN+ is accessed through the ESPN app and not the Watch ESPN app...To avoid confusion - my username is baseball (Cy Young award) related, NOT for the Cyclones.
