That was for the original injury. He now has a stress fracture.

Let's not pile on Croft too much. He grew up in a violent, poor, mid-sized city in Alabama with bad schools in a state with really bad schools. He's from a city the size of North Liberty that averages 13 murders per year and has one of the highest violent crime rates in the country.

This redshirt year could be just what he needs to get on track and, most importantly, set him up to have a successful life after basketball. Let's let it all play out rather than just conclude that he'll never play here after two days.

On OPR the other day they said 6 weeks with this new injury I thought. My understanding is he was supposed to be back already. I very well could be wrong though.

EDIT: re-listened to it. At about the 8:15 mark they talk about it. From what they say another 6 weeks, start of November is what they said for him possibly being back.

No one said he’ll never play so lets pump the fake news breaks a little. With anyone who struggles out of JUCO its ok to have some skepticism that they might not be able to get it done. You’re 100% right about giving him a chance. JUCO’s don’t put a lot of effort into academics and maybe no one has ever shown him how to study. It’s completely understandable for a kid from that background to struggle with the poor school systems we have in the country. Like I said before, I hope he gets the academic support he needs to continue on.

I assume our student athletes get tutors if they need, right? Just my opinion, but I feel like most kids who struggle academically just need a little help and motivation. Honestly, this program could be perfect for him as long as he puts forth the effort. I feel like all UNI athletics put a big emphasis on the student side of things. I'm sure he'll easily get more support in that area than he's ever had, hopefully he figures it out.

When I was working with the football team I know at least as a freshmen and maybe even a sophomore they had to go to study table. It’s a good way to get kids to understand the habit of working hard on school work. The school definitely puts the kids in a situation to succeed. I don’t want to call out any kids specifically but during my time we had a pretty high profile transfer from a JUCO who even with all that help just couldn’t cut it and left the program after his first year. With all that help some kids are either not willing to put in the work or simply cant make it at school for a million of other reasons.

so to answer your question: yes, they most definitely get the support and help from tutors.

Didn't you just say, "I’d have to agree on possibly never playing. If you cant get it together at the juco level where academics are not exactly hard then I don’t have high hopes. I would assume jake isn’t thrilled about this as now he’s taking up a scholarship that he thought he was getting use out of right away. I would think he prob would have held on to it if he knew this was going to happen. Kinda on jake for going after a kid he had to have known was struggling. Hope the kid gets the support he needs academically to continue on."

since your reading comprehension and understanding of the English language is clearly not that great let me break it down for you. you bolded a very key part that for some reason you cant understand. I used a very key word.....I used the word "possibly". possibly does not mean definite, which would be 100% (since you clearly cant understand that). the poster I was responding to said "Let's let it all play out rather than just conclude that he'll never play here after two days." to conclude something is to be certain of the results....again that would equal 100%......so I hope me breaking it down for you gets you to understand the English language just a little bit better.

why I said he might possibly not play is because of statistics...I like to use math in arguments or statements. if you take an average recruit who gets admitted to school he has % chance of staying academically eligible. now compare that to an athlete who comes in academically ineligible and you tell me which is the better likelihood to stay active on the team.

Your spinning your statement in a CYA method. However, you wouldn’t have responded to that statement the way you did without believing you could say it definitively. I would put a large sum of money. I one took your statement any differently than hedi. Why do I guess that?
That’s how I took it. It’s how someone that I talk too off the board took it. It’s pretty clear what your intent was - especially given this new perception a few seem to have on this board about Croft.

Jake knew exactly what he was recruiting in Croft. Transcripts are a part of the recruiting process. Conversations with academic advisors. Kid has been on campus a month, and practice hasn’t even started, and people like you are already discussing how he will never play on a panther uniform. There’s no other way to take your statement than the way it was.

If you knew anything about what the JUCO world is like you’d understand that the extreme majority of JUCO kids could use a redshirt year at a 4 year institution with tutoring - which UNI offers like crazy. Watch Last Chance U for a glimpse. Hell, the same is true for so many non athlete kids coming from a CC

not spinning anything. you can assume w/e you want and im perfectly ok with that. I never said the kid wouldn't ever play here...did I? I've actually worked around athletics close enough to understand that academic issues at the juco level could be a issue. what I did say basically is to me its a higher probability that he doesn't at this point but in no way would I want that or hope for that. I was clear that I hope this kid gets his academic issues resolved. I was expressing my disappointment that we bring a kid in who's expected to play and cant because of grades, its that simple. not sure why you could possibly get so butt hurt over someones opinion. I stand by my comment that if Jake knew he wasn't going to be able to play he might have held on to that scholarship but that doesn't mean anything other than I assumed we needed someone who could play right away. I guess going forward ill over explain things so ppl don't get their feelings hurt.

also, regardless of how you took it or how poorly worded you think my comment was I responded to BC by saying I wasn't saying that.....so why tell someone after they clarify their words that they're wrong...they're my words (which I attempted to clarify) to make clear I wasn't saying he would never play here. To try and argue against my clarification after that is kinda a joke and waist of time.

I'm gonna cut to the chase here.....that is a bullsh** comment suggesting he may never play.

You're not close enough to his situation to know how big or small his challenges in this area are.

How'd you like someone dropping that crap about you or your kid's future?

Let the kid do his work and be supportive as a fan base. The kid wants to wear the purple. If you can't at least do that then shut the F up.

You know what, you are right. I just can't understand. I can't understand your clarifications of your clarifications. I can't understand your repetitive use of......punctuating....your sentences.....like....this..... -- but I'm the one who needs to understand the language "just a little bit better".

Could you possibly clarify for me what 'agree' means to you?

as long as the player meets the academic redshirt requirements, (which he does) then a player can. his only issue is his GPA. His GPA is not high enough to allow him to play in competition.
