They're paid a lot of money, and we have too much talent to be playing this bad. At the end of the day, they have a lot of time to turn this around, but we're moving in the absolute wrong direction right now. I've been optimistic ever since signing day, but that optimism is getting hard to hold on to street getting throttled by a Summit League team. I would think frustrations after a game like this are completely normal.
I agree with this. My point is don't say something behind a fake name on a message board that you wouldn't say to their face. Criticism is fair. It's part of most jobs. As long as it is constructive it can even be valuable. Definitely fine to be frustrated after the last couple weeks. Everyone should be.

Keep the optimism. This team is still new/young/getting healthy/trying to find an identity. It will come.

Is the team missing a clear vocal leader on the court? In the past you've had Tuttle, Bohannon, Wes, Morgan, Carlson leading the team in that way. That role will probably be AJ in the years to come, but that's a lot to ask out of a freshman. Despite Wyatt being a senior, doesn't really seem to be his personality type and Miles is not on the floor enough to be that person.

Phyfe passed out Saturday morning before the game. He had gone about two weeks without an incident. Nearing time to make a decision about redshirting him and getting things figured out medically for his sake. Pickford looked better but only a shadow of what he looked like last season. Daum will be an All-American and SDSU has some nice pieces around him. They should win a game or two in the NCAA tourney this year.

Carlson may have been yelling at people, but he was never the vocal leader.

Yeah, I think you're correct about that.

That's sad news about Phyfe. Unfortunately probably best for everyone to redshirt him although I know that Iowa game is important to him. But - his health is far more important, and the team needs to be able to build their system around what they know is going to be available to them for the long term.
"...the Northern Iowa men's basketball team reached the ultimate highs before hitting a devastating low. Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

Here are the efficiency rankings so far:

                1. Luke
                2. Trae
                3. AJ
                4. Wyatt
                5. Brown
                6. Biggie
                7. Phyfe
                8. Pickford
                9. Spencer

Miles and Dahl just haven't had enough minutes to include them, IMO.

but don't you know you are required to be all dismissive of SDSU just because they are in the Summit League? (just like many P5 conference fans are dismissive of the MVC).

I made the drive up from DSM for the game and with the coaching performance that was put on ill wait for coach Jake to send me a check in the mail for gas and ticket cost. I think about 80-90 % of our offensive plays are simply setting a ball screen at the top of the three point line and passing the ball around until we have to take a contested 3 or long 2 for a miss. Im aware SDSU has a good team this year and I actually went into this game expecting very tough game and possible loss but in no way did I think we should get destroyed the way we did. Everyone knows the players need to play better, including the players themselves but coaching seems to be a huge issue so far this year. The Phyfe situation hasn't helped this team but thats not enough for us to be struggling as much as we have been. If he cant play this year and we continue to refuse to play Dahl is going to be a rough one without anyone who can really play the 5 spot. With a program our size i completely understand and how we like to redshirt players youre going to have some down years after good runs, but when your coach is making close to a million dollars, 3 years of average to below average basketball is not acceptable. With our resources as a program and our coaching we should not be any worse than middle of the pack in our conference any year. I think the program is fine at this point but if we have a 4th or 5th bad year in a row you could really set the program back. My hope is with the talented players on this roster and the kids coming in to our program that shouldn't happen.

Your analysis of the "new" offense is pretty dead on. We just need to get back to UNI basketball, and not have an offense built around one person. I understand AJ is THE guy, but I think we need to do a better job of getting the rest of the team involved and actually have our Bigs spend more time on the blocks...not out front setting screens, dribbling and handing off.

If this new offense takes hold, we'll be able to get games at Carver Hawkeye again - sandwiched between Arkansas Pine-bluff and the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

                          Ugh, I hope not.

It isn't losing to SDSU that bothers me. It is losing to SDSU by 32 points that bothers me. And that score wasn't a fluke either. Add to that the fact that we got torched in our last game as well, and haven't been competitive in about half of our games this year.

They're good but they also lost to Florida Gulf Coast and Tulane. They have Alabama State, Bemidiji State, UTSA and Kansas City on their schedule, but we are their most lopsided victory. If we are the program we'd like to be, we shouldn't lose to SDSU by 32 on a neutral court no matter how good they are.

I'd like to see a big fake the handoff and take it to the rim once in a while.
Or maybe fake the handoff and pass to a corner shooter who's relocated during the switch...or anything that isn't that same exact thing over and over and over and over and over and...
