Happy with ESPN+ the past few seasons for football and basketball.

About $5 a month, can cancel easily and resubscribe easily. Works with our Roku stick when streaming through our Xfinity account, even though we cut cable with Xfinity long ago (won't work with the Roku stick using Sprint for WiFi, but does with iPhones and iPads on the Spring network).

My issues are that Samsung have not updated the streaming apps to include one with ESPN+ (at least for the models of Samgsung TVs we have), so I use a Roku to watch on a big screen ... unless someone here has found a Samsung screen mirroring app that works with iPhones that cooperates with ESPN+ app (I have found apps which mirror well, but the ESPN+ app consistently will not work for that).
    "Well, that escalated quickly."

I've got a 2016 KU6300 with an ESPN app that includes ESPN+. At the top of the app, you can scroll to the right to select it. I supposed YMMV, though.

        • Last piece of the puzzle. The game at Northern Illinois is an ESPN3 broadcast.

Samsung JU6500 bought new in late 2016, but not sure when manufactured. The only EPSN app available to download is a game app. I have updated the software on it, no ESPN apps appear for download.

Great picture, but steaming has been crashing in the past six months frequently (Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, whatever). So just grabbing another Roku is might the way to do and just use the Samsung as a monitor.

            • I've had a similar experience with a Samsung TV. Bought it a few years ago because I read that the Samsung OS would work with ESPN app. Found out I needed to buy the much more expensive version then. I believe that is fixed now, but I haven't been able to get it to work on my TV yet. Have deleted and reinstalled the app, but that hasn't worked. I ended up buying a Sony this year when my primary TV crapped out, and ESPN app works great on it.

Yeah, the ability to upgrade the Samsung OS factored into our decision as well - plus we already had a "smaller" (42" screen, so yeah, this is now officially a first world problems post) Samsung that was and still has great picture and sound. There was hubub at the time the Samsung and Disney/ESPN were negotiating an agreement for an app for Samsung. Turned out that they did, but not for our model.

Still, great picture/sound on both Samsungs. Just need to grab another Roku to stream ESPN on the second one.

And, back to original comment, ESPN+ has been solid for me the past few seasons for football and basketball.

                Thanks, Waverly.

                • Is the still a difference between ESPN+ and ESPN3? I noticed Valley Hoops tweeted about a "How to Watch" for our games and most of them say "ESPN+/3"

                    ESPN 3 is free, ESPN+ is 5 bucks a month. I think.

                    • I think the only difference is that ESPN 3 is available without $. But you need to pay and sign in for ESPN +

                      • I should have said is the content still different between the two? I thought last year you needed ESPN3 for some games and ESPN+ for others. Which is why I was confused by how it's listed on that schedule.

                        • Oh. I think they're separate still, yeah. Not sure why they're listed in such a way. But I don't actually know, I'm just going off what it used to be, it's possible there was a change recently.

That was written before ESPN made the assignments. You need both. I've updated the first part of this thread with the assignments that were released a couple days ago.

                            • ESPN3 is "free" but you need your ISP to carry access to it - which almost every single cable/ISP does now.

ESPN+ is the $5 a month subscription - but it will not get you access to ESPN3 games if your cable/ISP doesn't carry it

                              • Unfortunately, ESPN3 is not available to us. Mediacom is our cable provider, but we don't have internet service through them, so they won't allow us to have ESPN3 despite much flack from us!
