I think you mean Trey. I like Trey as much as anyone, but if he's not making an offensive move, he's a bit of a liability with the ball handling. He's got his pocket picked more than a few times. I'd rather not rely on him in that area. Let him do what he does well off ball.Originally posted by sevelev711 View PostI think Ty is going to have the ball in his hands a decent amount, especially to start off the year, being more or less the only player on the team who's been here for two or more years
Question; are either of the new bigs (Wes & Hornseth) able to bring the ball up court on occasion like Cole did?

He definitely meant Tytan. Don't forget, Tytan had a game last year where he came up just short on a triple double and had something like 8 assists. He's a great passer, and supposedly he's taken a step forward in that respect.Originally posted by orangetennis View Post

I did indeed mean Tytan, correct. I don't think he'll have the ball in his hands all the time or even most the time, but especially early on, I think he'll be the guy running the offense if we're on the wrong side of a run, and we need a "calm down, run a play, get a bucket, stop the bleeding" kind of possession. He's, frankly, the only person I would trust in that scenario based on what we've seen on the court.

Having "the ball in his hands" is basketball terminology that refers to the player who brings the ball up the court, and/or gets the team into its offensive half court set. This player touches the ball on every possession, whether the play is drawn up for him or not. He's the player who makes sure the ball gets to the player we're trying to get a shot for.Originally posted by sevelev711 View PostI did indeed mean Tytan, correct. What you're saying about Tytan is that he'll get a lot of offensive touches. He'll be a focal point of the offense, and we'll look to get him shots regularly. This is all true. But Tytan is not and should not "have the ball in his hands" a lot. He needs a guard or wing to get him the ball, or go get it on a rebound.

Cael was a defensive player of the year in his league. Defense should translate pretty well. He's also very strong at his size. I don't know much about his offensive game, but if he is comfortable running the point and plays solid defense that should work.Originally posted by orangetennis View Post
I've been hoping this would be the case, but the jump from D3 to D1 is enormous. I can't find much film on Cael, so unless someone has seen practice, it's hard to just trust he can be an impactful player at this level.

I don't envision Hornseth being a guy bringing the ball up but I could be wrong. I could potentially see Wes bringing it up, but I don't think either one will be like Cole. Cole had plenty of faults in his game, but his ability to bring the ball up at 6'9" and pass the way he did was pretty unique. If he ever could've developed anything resembling a shot, he would've been a real problem.Originally posted by orangetennis View Post

And it's here! RJ hitting a three with confidence was great to see. Hutty still launching them too. Leon Bond can get up! And Wes looked like he was everywhere as well. I love UNI basketball so much.Originally posted by PantherAlum09 View PostI need a video from practice... I've got the itch for basketball season
