  • How many regular season MVC games in 22-23? I doubt the MVC does it the easy way with 22?

They were talking about that during the women game yesterday. Sounds like they are pretty set on a 20 game conference schedule for now.

      • 20 is great and 22 would be even better. Scheduling is not going to get easier for us, so adding guaranteed games against decent teams is great.

        • They've been set on 20 for months.

Two in the first week of December and then the other 18 starting mid-week after Christmas.

          • But have they determined how the rotation will work? Random or will they stack it to help the top teams?
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

Jackson used the term 'most advantageous for a chance at multiple bids' over the weekend.

              That is the correct choice.

Just a guess, but I think they will try to guess the way teams should finish and then split the conference into 3 groups of 4. The highest 4 projected finishers would only play 6 games against the bottom 4 projected finishers. The middle 4 projected will play 4 games against each other. They could try and project to 6 and 6, and then keep the top 6 only playing 10 games against the bottom 6, but I think trying to maximize for 4 teams may be a better option.

                • I'm late on this, but I'd be surprised if James transferred out. He has a kid and a wife. I think if anything happens it would be that he's just done playing basketball, but I don't think he'd turn down one more year of a full ride at UNI. Next year can be his last year eligibility wise if he wants it to be.

I prefer 22 games. Let's assume we have Austin and AJ next season and we finish 2nd in the league. That would be fighting for the last at-large bid to the Dance. Let's assume we have a schedule with zero non-division 1 and no bottom feeder D1 teams in non-conference. A better schedule could make the difference between the First Four 11 seed and the NIT. Of course, that would be the first season we escaped having a non-division 1. The morale is scheduling is one of our biggest challenges each season.

                    • I think it would be kind of cool if the league did 20 games but initially only scheduled 18 and left the last week open. Tell each team they have an away and a home game that last week and figure matchups based on standings at the end of January or so.

                      • I think we're gonna miss Berhow more than we think. He didn't have the stupidly ridiculous efficient season this year like he did in 19-20 but he still had solid splits, shot 38% from 3 on a decent volume making 2 a game, rebounded well, could handle and pass decently, and played alright defense for 30 plus minutes a game. Players like him just don't grow on trees.

I ironically think Heisse is a fairly similar player(Not as solid of a playmaker, but better defender) but we already have him, and he already plays 30 minutes of game. If we could find a way to try to find a similar player I'd feel much better about next year, regardless what happens.

More so his attitude and ability to get in someone’s head. His “chirping” got us a few free throws or turnovers each game.

Agree. I've watched his high school film a couple times. Every time I have the same thought...

Damn...this guy's a player. We stole one here.

Just seems like he does a lot of things well. Very athletic. Can get up. And he's put together well...college ready.

I think he plays a big role next year.
