Based on the metrics it actually looks like 12 should be a lock barring upset chaos this week. There’s a pretty big gap between us and the rest of the projected 12s/13s

I really love that draw. Leon, Trey, and Max chasing Peterson all over the floor, then potentially Will vs Mast round 2.Originally posted by JD720 View Post

A lot of the comments I’ve seen from others online were shocked to learn we hadn’t been to the tourney in a decade, so our reputation is still worth something.Originally posted by UNIpanther99 View PostI think our history (or legacy) is finally earning us some national respect among the prognosticators... We will see about the committee.

If we were to win a game in the tourney as the 6th seed of the MVC, I think it really would say something about the current metrics being used to evaluate true mid-major programs and conferences. Will anything positive be done about it? No. But it would say something.__________________

We are a much better team than our seed would suggest, if you played this season 100 times, I bet a 6 seed is the absolute worst case scenario for our MVC season. It was pretty flukey how this year turned out.Originally posted by UNIpanther99 View PostIf we were to win a game in the tourney as the 6th seed of the MVC, I think it really would say something about the current metrics being used to evaluate true mid-major programs and conferences. That said, you are still correct. If Belmont or UIC got the auto bid, it would not be the least bit shocking if they won a 1st round game in the NCAA's. The entire purpose of the NET being introduced was to punish mid-major teams and keep them out of the NCAA Tourney.
I really like our chances, regardless of who we are matched against.UNI FIGHT

I don't agree with this statement at all! A 12 win K State team is clearly one of the top 100 teams in the country (NET ranking #99), I think it is a great tool that is used 100% correctly!Originally posted by 06panther10 View Post

I most certainly do not believe that Kansas State is a top 100 team. They stink.Originally posted by GoPanthers85 View Post

And their current RPI rank is #172, vs NET # 99. That is my point. They ditched RPI in favor of a metric that props them up for never winning games. Its pathetic.UNI FIGHT

Another thing to note is that we could see potentially 4 teams we played in non-conference in the tournament with us. Saint Mary's and Furman are locks, and UC Irvine (1s)/CSU Northridge (4s) and Wichita State (2s)/Tulsa (3s) are possibilities as well. Hawaii (2s) and South Florida (1s) are the main teams standing in the way of any of them making it. Northern Illinois didn't make the cut in their conference tournament as expected, Oakland and South Dakota St lost their first games of their tournaments, and I doubt Loyola will do anything of note in the A10 tournament.

Not only that but they disregard them anyway if it doesn't fit what they want. Illinois State in 2017 and Indiana State in 2024 were or were close to the highest ranked teams to miss the tournament Based on RPI/Net.Originally posted by UNIpanther99 View PostIf we were to win a game in the tourney as the 6th seed of the MVC, I think it really would say something about the current metrics being used to evaluate true mid-major programs and conferences. 7-6 in First round games since 2016 plus a couple play in wins. This despite being the lesser seed in every game but Loyola in 21 where they were a whopping 8.

Needing some advice here. I might have the ability to go to our game wherever that ends up being. Does UNI get an allotment that can be purchased through the ticket office, or how does that work? I've never been to a tournament game before and I've always wondered how you get to end up sitting behind the team's bench rather than just in the GA ticket sections.

I have to imagine Loyola fans are feeling a little salty about being in last place in a one-big conference. Maybe it will be better for them in the long term, but it’s not clear to me what they gained by going to the A10.Originally posted by GarretW1797 View PostAnother thing to note is that we could see potentially 4 teams we played in non-conference in the tournament with us. Leaving Indiana State out was an absolute tragedy. Given their performance in the NIT, they would have made a run if they had gotten in.Originally posted by Username View Post
