Re: George Mason = Straight outa the hood

Funny thing. I saw a GMU poster call ODU and VCU the "bad guys" from the CAA earlier in this thread. When my boy and I visited McLeod last year for the Bracketbuster, we were treated extremely well, got to tour the UNI dome at halftime, and left with really great memories of UNI and its fanbase.

In fact, I still correspond with two folks I met from that game, and root for UNI when I see them on TV.

Fruit doesn't fall far from the tree, my friends, and that tree is named Larranega. The "injured" player tricks are not uncommon, and we had a similar incident with their worst FT shooter earlier this year at the TED.

Good luck the rest of the year. Feel really bad tha O'rear is out......good role player that will be missed. Win in St Louis!!!!

Obviously he wouldn't, so he has to turn to ridiculous tactics, like making fun of the students and the dance. That's bad journalism. That was my point.

This needs to be revisited. You would have a hard time finding many similar threads regarding other teams who have visited the McLeod Center.

Considering the majority of us were there, in addition to the lack of similar comments on our board, that might tell you something.

In person, I saw a dirty, classless team. I am embarrassed that insults were sent the players' way. AC, try to take a bitter pill and admit that you don't know what you are talking about and are relying on a homer blog for your information.

Re: George Mason = Straight outa the hood

I'm only going to say a few things, and then I'm done:

I loved Jim Larranaga before this game, and now I love him even more. This guy is truly a gifted basketball mind, and a class act all the way. Ben Jacobson is going to be the exact same kind of coach when he's 15 years in at UNI, so you best get used to a guy like Larranaga... hopefully including the Final Fours, too.

GMU won that game because they were more experienced, and more versatile. I think the effort UNI put up would have beaten any MVC team, but we didn't play an MVC team, we played a George Mason team that's going to make another serious run deep into the tournament. Just think of how good we'll be next season with most of our key scorers and defenders coming back... rematch, GMU? Oh yeah.

We boo a lot. That's what it is. I booed. I booed because I thought stopping play for a guy who just needed to be helped off the court was not only unnecessary, it was a detriment to the flow of the game. Those officials were AWFUL, and I gotta think we feel the CAA's pain about bad officiating. For every Higgins, or Hartzell there's a Hightower and a Zelton Steed. I'll be the CAA is the exact same way. Jim Larranaga apologizing is merely confirmation of that.

Their players being thugs?... he who be without sin... that's all I'm gonna say about that. They may be HARD, but they're no thugs. People would never guess by looking at UNI's tattooed team that most of them have GPAs above 3.00, but they do. I guarantee GMU has guys in the same boat.

I'm going to go ahead and say it - I didn't think Michigan St was that good last year either. If they don't pull off a .500 record in the Big 10, you cannot convince me they deserve an at-large.

I am not relying on anything but the game I saw on TV, and the past 4 years watching Mason, many of that in person. Like I said, if you think classless and dirty is playing physical then so be it. When I think of dirty I think of undercutting, intentional pushing and shoving trying to instigate further, and trash talking non stop. I guess we just have differing opinions.

Nice post MW..That is exactly why I got so bent out of shape with some of your posters. The way they criticized Mason being dirty merely because there was physical play. To think that it does not go both ways and your team is not playing that way too is the TRUE definition of a homer. Your team never fouls, or plays physical and always clean. Watching your PG (#11?) for one second you can tell he is a VERY physical player and there is NOTHING wrong with that. He bangs and initiates lots of contact, therefore by some on heres account making him dirty. Its part of the game, its a contact sport! I agree with you and have said before, we play a very physical and aggressive game but that in no way makes our guys thugs or classless. To call guys you saw for 2 hours in a basketball game thugs and classless is quite judgemental, and really ignorant knowing nothing about them.

AC- Sometimes people confuse class with good/bad decisions.

                      I love Larranaga. Great coach.

I thought a lot of your players were great players who worked hard. Some of them did not act the way I would expect a Coach Larranaga team to act. #45 was a non-stop whiner. About plays, about calls/no-calls, about if he was hurt and to what extent. There's gamesmanship, then there is him. As a coach/neutral observer, he would annoy the crap out of me. I wouldn't let him play that way, but obviously your coach knows what's best for your team.

There were a couple of other players whose attitudes surprised, me, but not to the extent of #45.

I don't think the players jumping/dancing on the logo was as much disrespect as it was a mixture of celebration and poor decision making. I've seen UNI atheletes make similar poor decisions and be lectured. I'm sure your coach handled his team in the way he thought was appropriate. Maybe he mentioned it, maybe they apologized before he could touch on it. Who knows?

Just try to keep in mind that you're on the message board of a team that made a sweet sixteen run last year, had high hopes, and had whatever chances of those hopes becoming reality dashed by an injury(that doesn't mean we can't win the MVC tournament, it just means it's going to take a lot of effort and that our bubble hopes were dashed).

I don't think you get it. You saw it on tv. Seriously? I was 30 feet away the entire game. I didn't get a chance to watch the commercials or rely on the camera feed supplied to your television. Four years of watching GMU? Great.

I am unsure what else you need. Oh, wait, I know, I know, you watched it on tv. I forgot.

That was my point, watching it on TV you miss out on things you see live. Even though it was on tv I still managed to miss the gut punches on screens, the trash talk to your players and the instigating. I didnt see any of our guys in your faces, or pushing after the whitsle or anthing. Unless again you take handchecks and physical play and mean that is instigating. It was my impression that Mike Mo and one of your players were talking and laughing with one another. I was trying to say watching them for four years and never witnessing things that you are accusing, and then all of a sudden they are doing them is a little far fetched. You werent down there on the court to hear what they were saying, or doing. It is your perception that they were doing all that. If they were so dirty and all these things went on, how come your coach or any of your players said nothing. It is just a few bitter fans.

But whatever you need to do to fulfill your opinion that they were dirty and your were cheated out of a win so you can sleep at night go ahead and do it.
