There probably would have been more UNI grads voting for Iowa over UNI anyways so it's a moot point.

Ummm.... you are off by a bit.

ISU and UI were killing UNI at the state fair in the kernal vote for the fb team who would have the most wins that fall. Keith and Andy told the Soundoff audience that they were plain stupid thinking that was gonna happen. As they put it, UNI always gets 9 or 10 wins during the season and a couple more in the post season. As they put it, UI/ISU would have to go undefeated to have more wins than UNI.

I'll never forget it because it shocked the heck outta me.

Umm....you are talking about a completely different poll than I am. I can't even remember the poll topic, but it was well publicized on PN at the time. It was a soundoff online poll and UNI won it handily. Apparently the hawk and clone fans weren't paying attention. Because we won it Keith and Andy declared we cheated and disavowed the poll results.

Have some idea what you are talking about before you call someone else off.

I've never been inside the Front Row Bar, even though you can smell the stale beer across the street from the place, so I've felt like I've experienced the place several times.

Does the Front Row still have the Iowa State Cyclone logo in all the urinals, so that you can piss on the Iowa State logo like I've been told by many Hok fans (again many of whom graduated from UNI)?

Whenever I'm at the Front Row and have to pee, I just walk over to the Keg Stand and take a whiz on the side of the building.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. I wasn't trying to be rude... just saying. Also, it's funny that I wasn't the only one who brought up the state fair poll (see JD). Breath....

Anyway, yes, they did do a live poll one night a few years back where UNI won that we really shouldn't have "won". I never put any value whatsoever into those polls and they were right to call us out. I'll admit to voting multiple times (probably only 3 or 4) because UNI was always a very distant third. Do I care that I "cheated" on a poll that involved UNI... not one bit. Did I feel guilty when they disavowed the results... not one bit.

It probably helped that I had friends helping me stuff the ballot box (starts at post 27).

UNI has almost as many Iowan students as the other two state schools and maybe half as many alumni in the state. So maybe instead of getting 5% as much coverage as the others they could give us 50% as much coverage. That would lead to a lot more alumni being fans and supporting UNI. As I pointed out above it worked for ISU.

It's stupid to blame Dsm alumni for lack of support. You may as well blame the alumni in Texas or California, they get pretty much the same level of coverage as the people in Dsm do. In fact, UNI has gotten a lot more positive national publicity in recent years than we have in Iowa. The media in Iowa are heavily invested in the myth that Iowa and ISU are some sort of athletic titans and every athletic event between them is epic. They've been milking that myth for all it's worth for decades and they more than anyone hate it when UNI comes along and beats the other two on a regular basis at anything.
What they should do is cater to what gets them the biggest audience. Making coverage proportional to alumni population doesn't do that, for a few reasons. First, that doesn't account for actual interest. Second, it ignores that the lion's share of Iowa and ISU fans never attended the schools. Alumni population isn't representative of the market.

UNI's coverage in DSM has improved immeasurably in recent years. Virtually all games are on a station you can actually hear, and local TV clears just about every "PSN" game.

Do the talk shows have someone on to cover UNI like they do for Iowa/ISU from Rivals/Scout/Cyclone Fanatic/Hawkeye Nation? No, because that person for UNI does not exist. Their option is Rima, and he makes every appearance he can (and does a great job doing so). This is the only UNI board and it simply isn't like those cites.

UNI has done some good things in DSM lately. The alumni events are a good start, they run a few (but not enough) commercials, the radio situation is good, and the TV situation is much improved. Additional events (even a "Big Four" game) can only help.

I said this earlier, but I will repeat it because it is so important. The school needs to more directly reach out to alumni, especially those who have found their way into traditionally high earning fields.

Ive never once been contacted by the PSC. I keep my alumni profile updated, i list uni as an alma mater on multiple websites and social networks, and im on the athletic department and business school email distribution list.

Iowa calls me at least monthly. Drake has even called me LOL.

                      Just sayin.

I get mailings, calls, etc from UNI very rarely. I hear from Drake literally every week.

Never hear from UNI in regards to donations.

Get calls from Buena Vista (went there for one semester) about donating.

Not that I can afford it now, but it would be nice hopefully in a couple of years and get the house loan, and car payments paid off!

Theres always something "better" to spend money on. Make it a priority. Its tax deductible for most people. Even 25 bucks helps.

Whether you can give five dollars or 5 thousand dollars, you need to give what you can. Regardless of your affiliation with UNI, if you care about this University in any capacity, you need to find a way to do what you can to help it.
