  • The guy the league contracts to schedule (his name escapes me right now) has consistently nailed it for over a decade so I don't expect that to change any time soon.

Whatever they're paying him, it's worth every penny. Same guy that does the Big 12 and the Pac 12.

Expansion of the MVC doesn't work unless you can bring in two more teams that aren't bottom feeders and hurt the conference. Unless the conference can become a consistent 3-4 bid league, why spread the limited funds across more teams. I'm not sure which programs out there would help elevate the conference but UTA, UMKC, and St Thomas aren't it.
I think initially with even the 12 we'll be a consistent two bid league. Can also have one to the NIT. The 14 can get us to three bids, but it would take two more good ones. It varies year to year which new teams would work.

To get more than one, the better MVC teams need to take care of business and beat good P6 teams in their preseason tournaments. It doesn’t matter if the MVC is a 12 or 120 team league.

And UNI is seemingly the only team who wants to go out of their way and schedule tough(I think Loyola had a decent non con this year too, only 2 in the top 100 non con SOS). The rest seem to try and pull Drake's and Illinois State's hoping a low loss total and the Vally's decent rep can get them in like Drake last year.

It hasn't worked our way in the Non con recently(2019-2020 maybe withstanding), but probably one of the few teams that can withstand a few losses.

Another good thing about having more good teams and the extra two games against good teams is that we can afford to schedule a bit lighter in the non-con season, so that'll be nice.

            • Murray has been fairly aggressive in the past but it's a helluva lot easier to do that in the OVC than it is in the MVC.

I disagree. It seems like most MVC teams schedule at least one or two teams in the non-conf, usually in a tournament, where a win would enhance what would hopefully be an already good resume, and help the league as a whole. Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened, Case in point, this year Missouri St lost to BYU and St Marys (who is ranked), and Drake lost to Alabama (Clemson too, although not sure how good they are). There were other MVC teams that played decent P6 teams. The conference needs to win some of those games, vs loosing almost all of them. UNI beating St Bonaventure was probably one of the few MVC wins over a team that was ranked at the time.

Missouri State played a nonconference schedule ranked 237th per KenPom, Drake 280...to save time, here's the list of MVC teams this year with a top 200 nonconference schedule: UNI, Loyola, Indiana State...that's it, Indiana Staye was 3rd at a 159, Loyola was in the 70s, and UNI was in the 50s. Teams HAVE to schedule better, and win some of those games.

Scheduling, or being in the same MTE, as with a P6 isn't good scheduling on it's own. You can't fill the other slots with garbage like Omaha, South Dakota and SEMO.

Jake was pretty candid that he had zero desire to play Nicholls and Vermont, especially that early. Good teams with older guys but if you're going to get an at large in today's world those are the games you have to play.

                      • Depends on his evaluation and how much longer we play. Also depends on how important individual records are to him, if he comes back he'll be the 3rd all time leading scorer in the Valley behind Hersey Hawkins and DJ Balentine.

Anyone know which MTE we are playing in next year (and who else is playing in it)?

With absolutely no insight whatsoever I'd give it 50/50 whether he stays or goes

Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City.

No word on the three other teams.
