If we're only bringing in one new guy through the portal, it needs to be an impact player. We're losing a ton to graduation and I'm not sure what we currently have coming in will replace it.

I'm wondering if UNI really screwed up two years ago by not going after this kid. He was a productive player for a tournament team, Wazzu, two years ago. How the hell did UNI let him get to SDSU? He looks like the exact player UNI has needed for years.

He's going to Purdue now. I think it's interesting that apparently Purdue is in an NIL realm that ISU can't touch. I wouldn't have guessed that but in hindsight I'm not surprised.

I think teams like Purdue are going to be the ones to watch when the House settlement is finalized. Schools like Purdue that really care about basketball and either don't have football or don't care about football - they will have a lot of money to throw at basketball NIL. Hate to say it, but Creighton will have a chance to be very good.

The Big East is full of teams like Creighton, Villanova, Butler, Xavier, etc. All of their resources are going to go to basketball. It also puts the private schools in our conference at a bit of an advantage. Drake, Bradley, Belmont, etc.

I'm with you, but impact players are not cheap. Impact guys in the portal are going to cost more than we paid Tytan and Hutty this past year. I just don't really see it happening unless we got a sudden influx of cash. I'm guessing our core group that's returning all got a nice little bump in NIL money and we will continue to take care of our own.

I'm obviously never gonna turn down getting better players, but I like our core 3, so I guess it comes down to how we define impact which is probably different for everyone.

Getting 11 back is key, so my ideal as it stands from what I wanted to see, and what the team is clearly targeting is a starting 4 that can play 5. Obviously won't be the caliber player that Tytan was, that's an impossible ask, but just someone who can grab boards, hit shots, and play solid defense. This of course is easier said than done and still carries a price tag so we'll see.

              That's how we replace it.

We already had Hutty, and a freshman we felt great about with Hornseth. Why on earth would we target him/would he want to come here? Sure, hindsight is 2020, but he also did that in a much lower caliber league. Who knows what he does in the B1G.

Also, regarding the money, you have to remember that revenue sharing will be a thing in a few months. All of the B1G schools will max out at their 20 million limit, the Big 12 will get there eventually I'd expect, but it is going to take some time before they get to that point. Just a massive difference in money they can offer.

                • What were the qualifications for the teams who were invited to The Crown tournament on Fox sports??

                  • Jonathan Pierre (Belmont) and Ali Dibba (SIU) to the portal.

                    Big losses for the league.

Top 3 non-tournament teams from the FOX leagues (Big Ten, Big 12, Big East, Mountain West) then they fill in with what they can. Think NIT with a overemphasis on those leagues.

                        Thanks! $$ incentive for players!

That's what happens when you go two years without any tape. You end up in the MAC on the 276 NET team.

Still surprises me. Was a three star recruit with a lot of hype, thought we would end up low high major or a top 100 contending mid-major. Wonder if he has a connection to the team or staff there

This further supports the argument that freshman out of HS in the top 50 and above rankings should just go mid major where they will likely start and then consider going for the bag a year or two in. No good in going P5 and getting recruited over in the portal year after year, never playing.
