I'm with ya right now. Let's get a team together so we can move on. Time to fill the roster.Originally posted by CyCarp View Post
Genuinely hope Utah State goes about 10-20 the next three years. Yes, I'm bitter. If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

Right, this whole thing sucks, but it feels extra worse right now because we literally don't have a basketball team. Let the dust settle, hopefully the staff can get us a good roster put together.Originally posted by UNIAlum95 View Post

It is really astounding to look at the talent we have departing our program this year, active players and our HS signees.UNI FIGHT

I mentioned him when he initially decommitted from the D2. He's got great size at 6'4", shoots the ball well, and makes a ton of plays defensively. He also just recently got an offer from Vermont.Originally posted by 06panther10 View PostWe have offered Jaydon Kimbrough from Cedar Falls. He was very good on the undefeated CF State Champ team this year.Last edited by PantherAlum09; 04-15-2026, 11:51 AM.

I'm having a really hard time staying interested in following college basketball. I mean, what's the point if an entire team pretty much gets cleared out at the end of the year? How do you root for players who will take off immediately if they play the way you hope they do? And how do we continue to root for a mid-major program, knowing that even if they recruit well, work their butts off in coaching them, and give them as much NIL as the school can afford, they're likely just preparing them for a bigger program that can offer them more, like we're a farm system for the "real" contenders? I just can't see the point anymore, people. Please give me some arguments to continue to give time and effort to following this team. Feeling pretty defeated and down right now.Give us a yell, HO! The purple and the gold
Victory for U-N-I!
Find out what the other team wants to do, then take it away from them.

Someone else said it on here a while back. Have to shift our mentality of supporting the individual players to the institution as a whole. Even if the world of college athletics is completely idiotic, there are and will be plenty of players on this team to make our school worth supporting. Regardless of whoever is sitting on that bench this year, it'll still be worth supporting. We retained more players than most teams and our head coach of 20 years departed so even if the state of college athletics isn’t great at the moment, gotta roll with the punches
I’m in on Kimbrough. We’ve had good success with 6’4 guards from cedar falls recently.

We are coming off of a long run of guys AJ Green, Tytan Anderson, & Trey Campbell. All 4 year guys, all legends. Those type of players are still around, yes there are far fewer, but that is the type of program we have to look build or maintain, so that we can get guys like that and keep them around. All of them could have left for more $, but chose not to.Originally posted by 95UNIGRAD View PostI'm having a really hard time staying interested in following college basketball. I get it and agree the system is screwed. It will take some real creativity to make changes that will help and then survive court challenges.Originally posted by 95UNIGRAD View PostI'm having a really hard time staying interested in following college basketball. That being said though it was awfully fun to watch a UNI team playing some amazing basketball in St Louis. That Team had great players from absolutely everywhere. We had players that started at High Majors, Virginia/Baylor, Mid Major Loyola, division 2, NAIA, and last year a division 3 player. It is hard not to enjoy watching Tristan Smith playing in the NCAA tournament this year after starting out in the middle of Nebraska.
Or for that matter I actually remember being underwhelmed when we signed Nate Heise. The kid worked his butt off and played great for us and then ended up playing in front of huge crowds and in the sweet 16. I enjoy watching guys like JaKobi Gillespie, and Reink Mast show the country what high level players they are.
I don’t think the current system can last, and it is probably teaching some bad lessons, but it also created 4 days in St Louis that I will never forget. Hopefully the new staff can find the way to use the system like the old staff did."My role is to lead, plain and simple. . . .I with the help of my staff and our administration, we will lead." --Ben Jacobson

KG is a guy who is REALLY easy to root for and get behind. Quite frankly, even if he does decide to move on after a ton of success (I feel like that's less likely now compared to what I thought a couple weeks ago) we already have the next guy sitting on the bench, who's already an established UNI legend. I've rooted for UNI basketball for 23ish years now, and am on my third different coach. #EverLoyal isn't just a nice catch phrase.Originally posted by kochrab View Post
